Purple Strains and Breeders (PURPS)

I have seen a few newer members (like me) recently asking about where they can find the dank purple strains. I first feel in love with the "PURPS" a few years back when I saw GDP being grown by a buddy of mine in Southern Cali. This is an attempt to highlight some of those breeders who are dedicated to cultivating and perfecting this unique varietal. In no particular order:
I know there are more so please feel free to add, thanks!

If you can get the original beans before whatever happened then yea but I haven't seen too much of anything that's worthy from them. The GDP Amos ran didn't look bad but not what I was expecting for GDP but the cut is fire
i did connoissuer's gdp a few years ago, amazing taste, and probably the strain that got me the highest for the longest period of time from any thing i've ever grown..
saying all of that though, i didn't get any sort of purpling in the buds though.. don't think my temps got that low, but it's been a few years like i said..
just thought i'd throw that out there..

Totally agree. If you are looking for that GDP @Yodaweed it is my understanding the brains behind the legendary strain was Ken Estes who is the same guy behind DVG.

That one from Connoissuers been out of stock forever lol I bet that was good. I hear GDP really needs to be taken a lil longer than when it looks done. I haven't ran it but gonna get it from good friend to try. But also heard before GDP needs coolers temps to change color too lol

I was given 10 beans that are said to be heirloom seeds of a cross between original GDP and blueberry. I know it's hard to be sure, but the guy i got them from is a guy who's connected enough that it's definitely plausible. I sprouted 5 of them; 2 didn't make it, but 3 of them are vegging now. I'm flipping them to 12/12 in a couple of days. I think they're all female.

Really looking forward to seeing how they do. It's an amazing looking plant - I'm growing out about 8 different strains at the moment, and these 3 plants stand out from across the room. I didn't even need to use markers to identify the plants; there's no mistaking which ones they are. Dark, broad indica leaves, stout and stocky... they just look healthier and stronger than anything else I've grown in a long time. Just an incredible looking little plant.

In my experience, bringing out the purp's can be tricky/finicky. Once you figure it out...

(I'm talking about "ringing out" every last bit of purple, this goes for any "purple" strain)
I have an extra air conditioner specifically used for chilling the room down during lights out in late bloom. Here's a plant that I've been working for a while, and this is the version that I'm cloning now. Haven't named the strain yet, but it smokes even better than it looks.

DVG is run by a former partner of Ken Estes but they are NOT affiliated in any way.
Right on, good to know, thank you!

Usually under 70 degrees F and flushing does the trick. Genetics as well affects it. Otherwise pretty straight forward. Flushing to get rid of nutrients at the end is bullshit along with the bogus ash test but I always flush when I want to get the colors rolling and it def helps.

Yup...I too was taught to drop the temps to 65 - 68 degrees F the last two weeks or so to "ring out" the purps. When in doubt follow mother nature...Just like the fall colors, cool nights (not cold) and warm days should bring out the color, but like a pine tree versus an oak tree, if the strain doesn't have the gene it won't turn.
