My recommendation is the new Netflix show Tiger King. From the promo I thought it was going to be a dumb reality show, but was pleasently surprised that it is a very well polished docu-series about big cat breeders and the problems they face. Episode 3 was so dark and hilarious at the same time.

Admittedly I have not watched much German cinema. The Lives of Others is a classic. Was pretty popular when it came out, believe it won foreign Oscar. Not that that means anything but you may have seen it already.

I will say that I wouldn't label Dark as creepy, horror schitt though. It's hard to give it a label. Part detective story. It's so layered. I really think you would like it.

Might I add Avatar the last airbender. Amazing storytelling and characters in a continuous 3 season epic storyline. It's made for kids but the situations they encounter run parallel to so many things in today's world. Azula was my favorite character.
