Question about 400 watt hps? +rep

can i grow my plants in veg under a hps? and i have a quantum series lighting ballast 1000 watt and i was wandering if there is anyway to hook two 400 watt hps's to it?

you can veg under a HPS but it will kinda stretch your plants. If that's what you have, it's fine. MH is better for veg, but hps works. I'd buy a 1000w

no, don't try to put 2 400w bulbs in a 1000w system.

If you mean hook up two 400 watt bulbs to one 1000 watt ballast, then no. I have been working around electrical for years and I have never seen this done nor recommend you trying, it will still be sending 100 watts more to each bulb. save up for one 1000w bulb and you will see great results.

my last grow i vegged under a hps and didn't see as much stretching as i thought that i would have... this grow i went ahead and got myself a t5 setup from htg supply for like $150 or so, and i am using that to vegg under, and will switch to the hps when flowering time arrives..
good luck with your grow and i would listen to the others and not try and hook up two 400's to the 1000 watter..

thanks to everyone, yeah it was just a wuestion about hooking up two 400 watts to my 1000 watt ballast i wont do it so there really isnt that much stretching growing in veg with an hps?

I believe on one of the last pages there is a detailed diagram about connecting two bulbs to one ballast. I dont know how difficult it is to achieve that configuration, but if I were you I would just use the 1000w ballast as it was designed to be used. Good luck
