Question about an inline fan for exhaust

http://m.homedepot.com/p/Suncourt-6-in-Duct-Fan-with-More-Powerful-Motor-DB6GTP/202797339/

Will this fan be good enough when pulling through a carbon filter to exhaust a 30"x30"x30 cabinet with an active intake?

A 30" grow cabinet? Possibly. Looks like that fan is rated at 180 CFM free flowing, which should be ample for that small a space. I know carbon filters restrict the flow a bit, which is my only hesitation.

Yeah my thoughts too... I could cut holes to hold the homemade carbon filters, make a box around them and attach thay and my 2 70cfm cpu fans, don't know if that would be any better

Atm I'm using 12 cfls totalling 447 watts, but in about 1-2 weeks my 180w ufo should be in, and That will be replacing the majority of the cfls

I suspect you'll be ok - the cfls are nowhere near as hot as HPS/MH anyway

I'm interested if they work with a carbon filter. I have a couple similar ones from online that work great but I don't run them through a filter, but have wondered if possible. As mentioned, I'm thinking you won't need much for cooling.

In general I agree with you pro, but, with such a tiny area, won't the high airflow from the centrifugal damage the plants? If you do go with the centrifugal, I'd guess you will want to use the 4".

Thats why you get one with a speed control knob. You can dial in the speed to adjust the temp to ideal. Air moving the plants is good for them, that is why most people put an extra fan to blow directly on them, and move the air around. It makes the stems stronger and eliminates hot spots.

I am just speaking from experience. I have used the booster fans in all my previous grows, and they worked fine. However, my exhaust line was short and only 1 bend, and I didn't use a filter.
My current grow I added a filter, and had heat issues, even with a LED. (BD360-U)
I ended up buying a better fan, and now its on medium, and the temps are great.

I trust your advice, this being my first grow I'm already around 500usd into it ill take my chances on the booster until I harvest or if I just have too bad of a heat issue, thanks for your advice it is much appreciated

Those booster fans are ok for incoming air and exhaust in small cabinets, but not with a carbon filter, they suck (pardon the pun) when you put a filter in, not powerful enough nor as energy efficient as a proper inline fan. Been there, done that. I now use it in a veg cabinet where I don't have to concern myself with smell. In the flower room its inline fans as already linked/suggested here.

If you can't do it due to budget, try rigging up some form of filter to the booster (DIY you can make one for about $25), or try dealing with the smell in other ways like dryer sheets, ona gel or the like...

Yeah I already put together 2 DIY carbon filters, got one for backup and one to hook up, not a ton of air restriction but enough to kill the smell

Home depot has some pretty decent mixed flow fans made by vents. They come corded and have a switch for two speeds. The 4" is $53 and they are very similar to s&p fans.
