Question about convertion bulbs

I was recently givin a baast with a socket, had a 400w mh bulb so I put it in and it worked. So I have been using that. My question is do I need a convertion bulb for when I get to flowering or could I put this hps bulb I have in it. I don't know if any thing will happen if I put the hps in I havnt tryed it but I would like to k ow incase somthing happends when I put the hps bulb in hAha don't feel like blowin up any thing.
