Question about flower to rosin expectation

Hi peeps, as it looks like I’ll have a decent harvest this fall I went ahead and purchased a rosin press. Our possession limit is 8 ounces of dry flower, an ounce of concentrates, and some amount of edibles but I’d rather be poked in the eye with a stick than do edibles so that doesn’t apply to me.

I will pick my very best bud to save for flower, and the rest of my best will be squeezed into rosin.

My question is, about how much flower should I expect to keep for an ounce of rosin? It’s a shame because our grow limit is way higher than our possession limit, so even if I have a bad harvest lots of ganja will be going in the compost bin for next year as we can’t share.

Depends how good your buds are. Nice frosty stuff, 20%. Im getting usually 15% on my half decent stuff. Temp that you press at makes a difference too. If youre gonna have excess, press at lower temp for higher quality lower yeild.
Id say aim for a half pound to guarantee an ounce of rosin but really good bud will yeild better

Thanks. My garden skills will reveal themselves in a few weeks but if half my buds make it through cure I’ll be composting a lot of good weed to stay legal. I’ve only made kief in the past but I’ve been doing a lot of reading, and can’t decide how I want to do this. Rosin from flower? Kief? Hash? I might just try them all lol. I got a score on a nice manual press recently so I plan on using that dude as much as I can.

Ive only done flower but next im gonna try live hash rosin. Might be something for you to consider again because of yeild. When doing bubble hash first and then pressing, you will get better quality and lower yeild than flower rosin. In your situation, needing to dispose of extra, i would go this route.
With "live" hash rosin specifically, you dont even dry and cure. Harvest and straight to freezer, then run bubble hash. Live hash rosin is considered to be the best possible concentrate by many, but i think its debatable. The pro hash maker frenchy cannoli always dried and cured before doing bubble. Like you said, try it all since you have excess to work with.
