question about hydroponics

I've been researching a lot about hydro growing, and it's looking like the way I'm going to grow. There's a hydroponics shop up the street selling the WaterFarm, and I was just wanting to know if anyone here has tried it, owns it, or has an educated thought about it.

Yes, but for 50 bux, you get one complete WaterFarm unit, with everything you need, including air pump and hose, nutes, rocks, etc. You can see how it works and then use that to devise your own home-built system.

I'm grateful for all the input, because I now want to build my own. I like creating things anyway, and after researching a crap ton about DWC I want to jump in. Really badly lol. I have a few more questions now, such as...

1) I always thought that roots subjected to too much moisture would succumb to root rot? How does DWC work in regards to not rotting your root system when the majority of the roots are suspended in 24/7 water?

2) With all of the air being pumped into the solution, where does it all go once the bubbles pop? Does it escape through the Hydroton, or through the any number of holes drilled for tubing, or vents? And how do you keep the water temp cool without spending so much on chillers?

Sorry if these sound stupid, but I want to know all I can about DWC now. I'm retarded for going with soil, smh. Thanks for the help!

1) The oxygenated bubbles keep oxygen flowing to the root zone, with that available the plant is able to manage the correct flow of nutrients and water across its membranes keeping itself from becoming water logged.n As long as water temps are below 75F and you have a good supply of bubbles there should not be much worry from root rot. One just needs to be careful to not setup a bacterial breeding ground.

2) Air will escape through any means possible, no need to drill holes or anything, it will get out as long as the container isn't sealed tight. I keep My res cool by setting it directly on the cement in my basement. Keeps it at 62F all day.

So, okay, the bubbles provide enough air to where the plant won't drown. Sounds good. Is there a ratio to figure out in regards to how much bubbles a plant needs? Say for instance, if I want to set up 2 5 gallon buckets would a 6" round air stone be sufficient for each bucket? Or should I go with dual outlet pumps and put in 2 air stones per bucket?

Chances are I probably WON'T go with 5 gallon buckets, but rather a plastic 58 quart storage bin with a max of 3 plants. Any suggestions on pumps and air stones? Which ones you guys have personal experience with that won't cost an arm and a leg? I'm thinking of an 8 outlet Eco Plus pump and 8 6" stones. Too much? Not enough?
