Question about mites.

Today a buddy came over and wanted to give me 2 clones. I let them sit in my house for about 2 hours while I went to his house to look at the flowering mothers when I discovered he has a mite infestation. I threw out the clones as soon as I got home and took the bag outside.

My question is, does anyone think the mites are in my house now and will find the way to my grow area? It's only in the next room over..

You will probably be ok if you didn't enter your room with out changing clothes...I can't emphasize enough the need to quarantine clones no matter where they come from
I would lose thousands by one mistake

Yeah as soon as I got home i changed clothes and put them in the washing machine. Not even going to step foot into the grow room until tomorrow. Just hoping they didn't spread in that 2 hour period since my place is pretty small.

He even knew he had mites, I told him it was a nice gesture, but not cool.. lol

you need some preventive measures regardless imo, I have gotten mites too many times from dumb shit like that. Theres no getting around them, especially if u r in a legal state and go to the grocery, hydro shop, fukn applebee’s or whatever. Atleast some sort of organic pestecide or some predatory mites which are what I use. Hyoaspis miles to be specific.

I rarely go into other peoples grow areas. In the past I've walked into mite infested grow areas with webbing all over their plants, filthy conditions, etc... I'm just amazed that people will spend a bunch of money to grow weed but can't be bothered to keep their grow area clean or take preventive measures to avoid mites and other pests. Whenever I give away clones I always thoroughly spray them down with neem even though there are no mites. I don't want to be one of those guys handing out bug infested clones. And I don't bring clones home ever. I grow from seed.

I agree 100%, and that's pretty much what I told him. Gotta keep things clean and organized. I've never once had a bug problem, so I'm hoping not to start anytime soon.

My first grow (only on my second) I got a teen plant from a friend, and I thought it was a good idea to pick up some clones from a dispensary to fill the gaps in the tent, didn’t want wasted light. Bad idea, clones must have had mites, almost killed my gifted plant. Thank god she recovered, got 713g from her

I've found the most effective method for dealing with a few mites on 1 plant or a couple clones issolated is: Manually squashing them every couple of days as new ones hatch. I tilt the plant sideways (careful not to get soil under the leaves, as it makes this impossible!) under light, paying close attention to leaves with a few stipples, any with lots are removed. Gently rubbing the entire underside oft he leave kills the mites and most eggs. use my fingernail or slightly roll the leaflet to get most of them that hide near the leaf midvains.
Visually killing all of them i've had 100% success with this, no chance of resistance.
If it's more than one plant or progressed, this is impreactical ofcourse. But can be used to save a valued cut.
