When doing sog, when should one cut off the lower 2/3rds side branches? As soon as they syart flowering ? Or after the strech ? And also does taking off the lower side branching cause the plant to produce a larger main cola ? Thanks in advance for any answers, and happy growing!

Hey des..when growing sog you flower your plants when there small in small pots so they will only grow 1main cola....the small pots don't give enough root space for side branching....you might get side branching but they will be short in length.alowing the main cola to fatten up..you should only be vegging for a week for sog growing..hope this helps

By cutting the side branching your hurting your yeild it will not make your main cola bigger because you won't have the root space for it....what size pots u using ..you can grow in sog from 2liter to 1gallon anything bigger and you.l get bushy plants ...just my thought..scarecrow77

This is a quote from al.b.fuct from the Get a Harvest Every 2 Weeks Thread, A guy whom i believe to be a guru around here on many things including SOG methodologies

"The main points that newbs need to take from this are:

a) to put newly rooted clones in to flower with NO veg time outside of being in the clone box (which runs 24/7 fluoro light). This makes the individual plants wind up being about 33-36" tall at wk 8 (they stop gaining height in wk 3-4 of 12/12 light), ideally suited for the foliar penetration ability of HPS lighting.

b) remove all branching from the lower 1/3 of the mainstem - this allows a maximum number of plants in the available space without crowding, as well as getting rid of little buds and forcing the plant to spend its energy on making the fatter ones."

Hope this answers your questions, also please feel free to skim through Al's posts all throughout that thread i linked above, VERY good info this guy gives out.

sog is just lsting or super cropping to maintain equal canopy, I don't cut anything but the very bottom two-3. just my .02$

SOG = Sea of Green = Many small plants with only 1 main cola, best way to increase yeild = lollypop.

Not sure that you have any "method", just some plants! :D

I always clear out the bottoms as i go just a little every now and then rather than hacking half the plant all at once and i stop at about 3 weeks in.
if you dont keep it clean youll get restricted airflow, popcorn buds and pests and disease assosiated with damp high rh conditions botrytis, fungus gnats, pm not to mention indoors you only have so much light penetration before leaves naturally yellow and yellow leaves are a sure fire way to atttact pests
