Question about temp

I am growing in a 4x2x7 tent.
Light is an 8 bulb 4 foot T5 400 watt
Since I went fluorescent I used a 4 inch fan with phresh filter.
I thought 4 inch would be ok with t5

I have thermometer on wall of tent 6 inches above hood
My temp with tent closed and fan running are 88-90 !!
Humidity at 40%
If i open top of tent its cooler
One plant did have leaf curl but this corrected with drop of temp
I guess my question is what is proper temp
I cannot afford to buy 6 in fan
Guy at grow shop assured me with t5 4 in was good
Oh yes house temp is 72

Hiya dannyboy44, Have you tried moving Thermometer to the Height of "The Tops Of Ladies" OR indeed anywhere else??
Don't forget Heat rises...so the Temps will be Hotter above your Hood anyways...plus if you not venting enough then you will probably notice either a build up which you release when you open Tent door OR when outside Temps Raise/Drop? have you got Holes at the bottom of Tent? are you using these Holes as passive Intake? what about Holes at the top other than Exhaust Fan/Filter Port you are using?

Do you use any other Fans in your Setup?? and what about Fresh Air entering room and Stale Warm Air leaving the room...

It's a lot to do with Flow...which is why I think a lot of Growers have say Low Right/Left Intake and High Left/Right Exhaust Port(Opposites) to encourage/direct the flow..

Edit:Hope you sort? Just try moving Or changing 1 thing at a time and Check/Rec any changes in Temp/Hum.

Good points. Yes I have vents at the bottom. it does make more sense to open bottom vent as fan pulls air out top.
I guess all i accomplished by unzipping top of tent was letting out some hot air but not aiding circulation. Ai

your placement for that t stat is incorrect. you need to hang it plant level. hot air goes up. so mabe the temps are ok with the plants.

I had the same issue running CFLs (23w x 18 of them) in a similar sized tent. Temps were getting into the mid to upper 80s. My cheap inline fan wasn't cutting it.

I just installed this fan and the temps are holding around 75F with the fan running at 1/3 speed.
