QUESTION For Miracle-Gro Organic users...

My question is for people who use this particular soil.

Do you or have you ever had a gnat infestation after a few days from them spawning in the soil?
If so how did you decide to correct this without chemical pesticides?

U can place a barrier on top of the soil to keep gnats from laying their eggs. I do spray but only use safer soap. Mb a soapy water drench would help but I've never done it.

miracle grow is for noobs.. seriously its just a cheap cop out way of growing, and the nutes are not meant for smoking plants. as far as your infestation non chemical way to handle it is with azanachtrins like azamax. spray and root drench, it will take care of it all

Mind explaining to me how organic nutes arn't good for plants you consume?
I dont care about peoples "opinions" of miracle grow, im looking for the facts, and ive seen more than enough evidence on this site alone that miracle gro is just as good anything else.

And thanks for the azamax suggestion. I don't currently have gnats or anything, its just to learn about things that could eventually come up.

I used these guys recently for some gnats that showed up in my batch. Cleared em right up. Im not using MG though, Roots.

Hey thanks for that link, funny enough i was actually just looking into nematodes!

the proof is in the end results, grow side by side mg and roots organics. you will never use mg soil again. try it for yourself, dont take my word for it.

miracle grow. just wait, your going to have mushrooms growing out of that soil, i use gognats and pure spray green. both organic and omri listed. they work very on all pests well. personally i don't like miracle grow either, i use fox farm ocean forest or sunshine mix

The gnats most likely occurred during shipping, its very common in some regions. Try avoiding that store because chances are everything they carry is infected. Luckily gnats are really easy to get rid of. Hanging yellow fly paper will catch most of the adults. Adding an inch of dry matter will starve the larva. I like diatomacious earth, but you could also use sand or cheap non-clumping clay kitty litter. The soil itself is fine, its just peat moss and manure.

So its ok to eat tomatos and hundreds of other foods grown using MG but it is not OK to smoke?

What if you live 120 miles from the big city where they sell high dollar nutes that grow MM twice as fast, twice as stony?

not that, you get what you put in. you'll have much better quality with something different from miracle grow. plus i don't like that mushrooms always grow in that soil on its own. i even use ocean forest for my seasonings, avocado tree, lemon tree, and spanish lime tree.

my rule of thumb never buy soil that is stored outside. hydro shops spray the inside of their stores for pests so if any pests are there, they would be killed. i know soil companies have huge piles of soil sitting outside before they bag them up. but i still stick to that and its served me well

hank if you wanna try something natural and organic i would suggest sprinkling some ground cinnamon in your soil. kills the gnats off pretty good also a good insect repellent

Hey thats a good suggestion thank you. Just to be clear i have no pest problem, I merely asked this question to find remedies and such if the case ever arises.
Where i live i have extremely fertile native soil, I've ordered 10 lbs of worm castings, vermiculite and 100% perlite. Im going to make my own mix out of my native soil and those other ingredient.
When i was a teenager before my father passed away he tilled up a large garden in our front yard, we live on top of a natural spring.
We used to grow 20lb cantelopes. I know this sounds like the biggest bunch of BS ever..but i've seen them weighed on a scale and eaten them myself, not a single one grew under the size of a basketball and were all as sweet as honey. Guessing ill do MUCH better off going that route than using the MG organic even tho i still think the stuff is just fine, its when people decide to add all their fancy shmancy nutes by the buttload to it is when they start killing everything and blaming the soil
