I just bought a 10 gallon DWC system with 8 3.75" plant sites. I also bought a crap load of air stones and air pumps so there will be plenty of oxygen. What is the max temp that I can be in the DWC system where there won't be root rot? I mean my house temp stays around 74 F all the time, so how am I supposed to get my temp in the res low or is the temp in water always cooler the the air temp? Should I just sale the DWC system on ebay and get a ebb & flow system instead where i don't have to worry about temp as much in the res?

the maximum you want would be around 70 degrees. Cooler water holds more oxygen. SInce the res is on the floor, its the coolest spot in the room. What makes you think this isn't a problem with fllod and drain?? VV

One method that is simple depending on how large an operation you have is to add a one gallon milk jug of ice to your res, just rotate two of them into and out of your freezer. Chillers run around $400.00, e-mail just bought one and the results he is getting is posted in his Journal. VV

My res temp is just a few degrees less than the room temp,79f & 75f. you need to keep the temp between 60f-70f, if you use frozen objects be careful. you could end up shocking your plants. If you have enough D.O.(dissolved oxygen) you can somewhat counter the effects of SLIGHTLY higher res temp. My res temp is 75f, but my plants are healthy. DWC is a bitch for me because I am on my first hydro, I am however converting to GH Waterfarm pods. DWC is just more to maintain, for me. I am contantly having to adjust my ph, but that's me!
I took the temp of water last night in my room and it was like 2 degrees below my house temp which was at 74 degrees, i do not see how people use the DWC with out lowering the thermastat on the house alot and raising the electric bill. Wish I would of considered res temp before i bought the DWC system.

I think you will be fine with the temps you have now, but I'm a noob so dont quote me! My res temps are around 66-68 and going good!

Reservoir temps are not nearly as important in e&f as they are in DWC. I don't have my flowering room going yet, but was surprised how cool the res is staying, even though the room is around 80 degrees most the time... Res is on a cement floor.

Pretty much any system where most the roots are not always submerged in water... ebb & flood, drip systems, passive (hempy) are good systems where res. temps being a little high arn't the end of the world. If ur res is 72 that should be fine though.
