Quick watering question, please advise!

So I setup my first grow area, everything is going well enough but my biggest question is how often should I have this ebb & flow hydro setup flooding the grow tray? i currently have it flooding 6 times a day for half an hour, but I have read about watering anywhere from 4 times a day to 24 times a day so any experienced advise is appreciated.

I am using a 264 gph pump 15 gallon reservoir, 9 gallon tray, timer can only pull off half hour increments. Please help a newbie!

What is your medium? Rockwool?

Buy a digital timer for about 20 bux. You want to flood sufficiently and drain quickly. The frequency depends on how much water your medium holds.

ok now are your plants directly in the clay balls (hydroton) or is there a pellet or plug in there also (anything that will retain water)

if not, using hydroton i flood every other hour for 15 minutes 24 hours a day...

Reefcouple I have been reading the site like crazy and have come across lots of your insightful posts, thanks for the reply! I have the plants directly in the pellets with no plugs. Since my timer only does half hour increments, until I buy a more precise timer should I just leave it watering the 6 times a day for half an hour? I will certainly get a timer with smaller increments on it and go with the 15 minutes every other hour ASAP. Thanks for the help.
