OK so I attempted a frozen "micro-extraction". (3.5 grams of KB). I know it's iffy at so low a quantity, but I wanted to try it. This was two weeks ago.
Everything started great. I picked up some baby food jars. I bought 190 proof grain alcohol. I dried the buds until "just frangible" and crumbled them into pea size chunks.
I did the extractions in multiple tasks..
First run, I had maybe two ounces or 60ML of yellow extract after gently swirling the jar twice.
Second run, I ran it much harder, even shaking the jar. I had four ounces of very green extract.
I began the process of evaporating the ethanol. After several days, the evap had not proceeded as expected, but there was enough room in a baby food jar for both extractions. I filtered them both again through a coffee filter and combined them.
Back to four ounces.
I even smoked the leftovers to make sure. The weed shake and pea sized leftovers were almost completely inert. As in three bowls for relief. This medicine was normally in the one to two hit range. It was like smoking ash.
Herein lies the problem:
As the last of the remaining ethanol evaporates, it leaves giant residue down the sides of the jar, which looks like a resin or an oil...!? What?
In the bottom of the last milliliter of extract there is a black dot of oil, which doesn't dissolve in the ethanol.
Therefore, now, Questions!
I can remove it with a coffee filter, but what f'in kind of oil doesn't dissolve in ethanol?
Is that my product? If not, what is it?
Am I safe in assuming that the product is locked into the ethanol? Or could half of it be stuck on the sides of my baby food jar?
I can post pics if necessary, but it's feeling like something has gone wrong...
I was hoping for something like a 10% extraction yield, which would equal roughly 1/3 of a gram in good oil, which I had hoped to dissolve in 1 gram of propylene glycol in an Evod head which I trust to not leak...
I saved the jars and coffee filters...
I can post pics if needed, but the jars look like they retained all the product stuck down the sides, as the ethanol evaporated.
Any and all help or advice is appreciated.
ETA: Is it bad to accelerate the process in a convection oven? Mine can range from 150F down to "warm". I can dial it in rather accurately down to "just barely warm where I can touch the coils"
