just bought my first R O system and I'm still not 100% sure it's worth it can someone explain this to me. any extra input about RO systems is appreciated.
I don't agree with this. Distilled water is what all other waters are measured against. Distilled water is almost 100% pure.Explain its value? ro water is almost a pure as distilled. it is the best starting point for hydro because you know your starting point is zero and you can better control from there. Plus it is better for drinking, coffee and tea etc. I wouldn't be without mine.
Which unit are you running?I used to carry water from the store and I thought that was a lot more work. I figure my ro unit which was $179 paid for itself in 6 months. But then my wife and I both like it for drinking.
Maybe your ro water sucks but mine is less than 10 ppm.I don't agree with this. Distilled water is what all other waters are measured against. Distilled water is almost 100% pure.
Your RO water is around 95% pure.
Your missing my point, and seem to be offended.Maybe your ro water sucks but mine is less than 10 ppm.
There are def more pros than cons if using a RO ill start with the cons first. Waste water RO literally throw away 2/3 of the water they take in and if your doing a larger size grow thats alot of water to just dump it seems like a huge waste especially if your on a well or something the second con would be the time it takes to get the amount of water you need oh so you want to water yeah well your gonna have to wait 4 hours to fill up your reservoir at minimum oh wait you have a 100+gallon reservoir well ok ill see you tomorrow lol. The third would be price.. those thigns are expensive ecspecially if your looking at one that does more than 200 gpd your talking thousands.what are the pros and cons if any. what are the specific needs when using ro so on so forth BTW it's just as much work for me to use the filter as it is to carry water from the store except i have to wait for the final product. but will deffinately save me money in the long run. Do I need to get some calmag or magical.
Good info + rep for somthing stuctured and informal. Did not know about the clorine killing the beneficials. Deffinately good to know. My res runs 16 Gallons for six plants in a 31 gallon tote why 31 and not just 30 I have no idea, but so far so good. anyone else have any extra info on this subject. I would really like to know if i should pick up some magical or calmag whatever booster i go with. Is it a neccessity for Ro or will I be able to squeeze by with my GH three part I'm also using floralicious, and subcultures. There are def more pros than cons if using a RO ill start with the cons first. Ok and the Pros now. First you dont have to lug car fulls of water every 2 days from the grocery store looking like your up to something even though you said its not a problem no body need 20 5 gallon jugs of water unless of course your getting ready for a fall out... it just looks suspicious and anyone who knows whats up will know exactly what your doing. Second they really will pay for themselves after a few months. The pre filters need to be changed every 6 months to a year and thats pretty minimal ($40 maybe) the membranes last about 4 years and those are expensive so if you machine is that old you might as well just buy a new unit by then. Third you can regulate the exact amount of ppm you are giving to your plants some places especially growers with well water will have high ppm to start with and it will total mess with your nutrient regimens and could cause toxicity problems depending on what mineral is too high in the water to start with. Forth if your on city water chances you have chlorine in it and that kills all beneficial bacteria in your soil and/or growing media it totally depletes you little mini Eco system you basically need in your root structure
In my avi is my set up. 4x8 tray, 70 gal res, sealed room and so on. I do have an RO set up. It takes 12 hours to produce 70 gallons.
It is nice to know that you have a clean slate when mixing your res up. My water is 500ppm out of the tap and very hard. So RO is almost mandatory for my hydro grow. My soil grows were fine with tap water.
I pretty much run your basic NPK nutes and a half dose of CalMag. Most nutes have some CalMag in them and that's usually enough for growing herb. My RO system takes my ppm from 500 down to about 10. One thing to consider is an RO system with a reserve barrel. It is sort of a bitch to clean your res if you don't have 70 gallons waiting to go in. If you fill up your res directly from the RO and forget about it you will have a flood. A few gallons of water on a floor is a ton of water. Been there...
Get an RO system and a reserve barrel with a float. You can turn on the RO and when the barrel fills the float rises and shuts off the RO system. It works like the float in your toilet.
$200 is the price for a decent RO system. Buy a used barrel on Craigslist. Some hydro shops have them too. For under $300 you can have really good water.
If you're going to grow in soil don't even worry about RO, just grow.
Anyone considering going to RO check this place out best price I found far superior system when compared to what the growing supply sites have 159.00 75 GPD RO/DI 5 Stage Standard System plus they have cool videos on how to set up system
http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/store/75-gpd-ro-di-5-stage-standard-system.html
Someone posted this link in another thread about RO.Mr. Bob using the system for 6 months works flawless.
I think the price is lower because its a salt water fish supply not a growing supply
Growing supply shops tend to inflate prices due to the nature of the business
Both R O systems are the same in working principal really even better filtering 5 times to some of the grow shops 2-3 filter systems.
algeezy sorry to post the R.O recommendation on your thread just thought it would help out others looking for one It took me a year of looking before I finally bought one. didnt mean to make ya feel bad since you already have one... Have a bong hit on me
