Yeah they'll be ok in rockwool cubes for awhile.
If they have to wait a long time: I have a little tray, which I fill with a little water, and then put a few layers of hydroton in and then set the starter plugs or rockwool cubes on top of the hydroton. Gives the roots something to sort of grow into once they leave the cube and will help prevent the plugs/cubes and roots from drying without water-logging them. But when ready to place them into netcups: just fill the tray up with a bit more water, most of the hydroton will start to float and become weightless, and then gently lift the plug/cube and roots out - I never break any roots or anything and they can go for quite a long time in the tray.
