Really needed?

Hi all!

I have a quick question. I am thinking about growing a few plants from clones off of my buddies mother plant. I have never grown myself before, but have a very green thumb and know alot about that kind of stuff.

My question is if I am only growing a couple of plants for personal smoke, do I really need all that ventilation and carbon filters and such? I understand 30 plants may stink a place up but how much could two make? I plan to grow in soil and use several CFL's. I dont want to get into all the HID lighting crap even though I am sure it is superior. I just want to have some fun tending to a couple plants without having to go wayyyy overboard and elaborate.

So is it really needed??

So long as the strain that you have doesn't emit much odor I would think that would work. I am in a similar situation.. (trying to grow enough just for myself) Can't decide between CFL's and a 250w HPS unit.

nick912- ventilation is for heat, if you will not have a heat issue, then just buy an ozonator. that will kill 90% of the smell.

and

jetset- invest in a 250 watt hps. i went through the whole buy some cfl's, then buy some more, then realize you wasted just as much money on cfl's as it would have cost to just by a 250 hps...seriously. just buy a 250hps kit from htgsupply(ebay) or something.

nope other than an oscillating fan i don't think you'll need much. i've grown for many years without any carbon scrubber/filters/squirrel fans. it does get fragrant smelling late into flowering but nothing that some Febreze can't cover up.

Nick,if you have the desire to grow,you can grow anywhere...there are guys on here growing in pc cases...one to search....ragincajun420 did a rubbermade tote grow that just harvested 3 plants...in grow journals,check it out.I guarantee you will learn some good things
