I would like to hear ONE good reason not to reuse it. Think about it; does the soil under your feet get reused? Which one is richer, "dirt" or the great stuff we grow in?

Reusing soil for one means your soil isn't going to be sterile, thus the post...

I hear in order to do it you need to run alot of BOILING water through the soil, then add nutrients.
boiling your soil will sterilize it. Secondly, the soil will have next to no nutrients in it and it will be overall poor quality. Just get new soil its not like your going to be emptying your wallet to do so anyways. Good soil can mean the difference between great quality buds and plain disaster.

Yeah but the nutrients constantly get replenished in nature while the soil we use has preset nutes that get used up. If you reuse the soil, mix it in with other stuff

Who says it has to be sterile? It's not sterile anyway; sterile means there are *no* microbes whatsoever. A plant does not use much of the available nutrients in soil in one grow but you can amend it with bone meal, blood meal, dolomitic lime and cottonseed meal. Don't overdo it though; I found out the hard way it's better to have too little nutes than too much - even in soil.

yeah, I've got a couple of buddies that been on it for a while and "always" recycle soil, but I figure it best to get as many opinions as possible to make an educated decision. THANKS AGAIN TO YOU ALL for your feedback.

I would not reuse soil. I personally would not do it, because it reminds me wearing someone else's underwear. It just doesn't feel right.

Couldnt you mix your soil with ready compost, personally im gonna mix it w/ food product compost, all fruits/veg. tea bags n shit. Then add some benefitial bacteria, and it should be some dank soil. You would just need to steralize the soil in the composting process, it can get +160' F when conditions are met. small/medium piles are the best but you can sucessfully do it with bins. When composting, what's inside your bin will determine what temp. it will decompose at (the rate of decomposition). And they make inside composters/bin's for if your winters are cold. Worm compost is good..well its fukin awesome, but its not sustainable thro out the year if your winter's are snowy. But the worms leave alot of little worms for the following spring, so thats an option if you have the space for a worm bin, they're easy to make. Either way, worm or reg. composting i bet would recycle your soil effectively

I grow organically in soil and I reuse mine 2 or 3 times before replacing. Why ditch it after one grow? All of the beneficial microbes have been reproducing and are at their peak. Why start over with new dirt? Not to mention, reusing at least once cuts your soil cost in half.

Sterile from what? Unless you have some kind of mold or fungus in the first place, which if you did you last plant probably didnt turn out too well, what are you sterilizing? And from what I understand, dont people go out aand buy soil purposely that doesnt have any nutes in it so theyre sure of no nute burn? What the hell is wrong with you people of course you can reuse soil. I do it all the time, and unless my plants die or fuck up I probably will keep doing it.

Farmers recycle their soil every year, and so do I. It goes into my composter, green and brown materials are added as they become available. After a year a rich humus, full of good bacteria and humic acid comes out the bottom, which I freshen with wormcasts, perlite and lime.

Proof of the pudding is - my best girl this year, couple of days before she was chopped.
