Red LEDs only, anybody ever try it?

I've read that you can grow plants under red LEDs alone, but some develop tumescences on the leaves, which are raised browned areas which reduce photosynthesis. I was just wondering what happens to Cannabis under pure red light. Maybe it has no bad effects and maybe it works better than white. I couldn't find any articles on it other than one where they used blue, red and green filters. All they were doing was testing the leaves for cannabinoid content though. They didn't actually flower them out. They didn't mention any abnormalities though, just that they had higher CBC to THC ratio that white light plants.

If blurple is less efficient than white it seems reasonable that red would be as well. I read an article stating that green light absorption is dependent on intensity and high intensity white light may have a higher absorption of green than red.

This doesn't seem intuitive, but if human eyes are biased towards green light what we see isn't a true indicator of the ratio of color spectrums being reflected. If all colors were reflected equally a plant would still appear green.

With the Osram Zelion HL you COULD do red only. But the blue keeps it from stretching too much. So maybe mix a high K with red if you want to experiment. Or get an Osram Zelion HL and test it for yourself.
