Relay and Contactors :S

How do these actually work? Ive seen a diagram for a 2 way contactor, and one plug is connected to the mains and another plug connected through a timer then into the mains. Does this mean the contactor will turn on according to the timer?

Will i need a contactor for a 250 Watt CFLm as ive only read instances where a HPS is involved.

As i will be using several appliances (2 fans, 2 lamps) is it possible for me to use an extension lead to connect 2 contactors to the mains? running like:

2 Contactors, with 2 grasslin timers--->extension lead--->mains

A relay is an electromechanical switch, contactor is just a heavy duty version of a relay. Ever make an electromagnet with a nail, wire and battery? That is how the coil works in a relay.

When you say mains, what do you mean exactly? To me the mains are the lines going to a disconnect or breaker.

Sounds like you are over complicating what you are trying to do. Why can't you controll a powerbar with a timer?

yes you will need a contactor to run your light on a timer..
most timers have a max wattage on them of 125w . the contactor stops the timer from malfunctioning which without contactor would leave you with 24hr light.

also dont run it like that your extension will blow .

house socket - timer - contactor - light - light - house socket
extension - fans

plug your extension into the socket on the contactor
