replacing molasses in hydro grow

I'm new to growing and i am gathering my supplies. I have read a lot of threads and gathered a wealth of information from u guys. I keep reading on molasses and I want to make sure that it is only used on soil grows.....and if so what do u replace it with in a hydro set up

Some people use it in hydro, I tried it for 1 week and didn't like it. You can use Sweet (Botanicare I think) or Sweat Leaf (Advanced Nutrients) instead.
