iv done a few google searches on the matter a few points i wanted to clarify that were left unanswered, every post on the internet seems to turn into a argument

my temps go up and down 78-82 and im getting a little bit of root rot needs to be lower-

does the frozen bottles that touch the roots damage them?

someone said mylar absorbs some of the heat my bucket is currently black

i was unsure if the frozen bottles would damage the roots so i put the air pump in a cooler with ice but its not affecting the temps whatsoever any idea why/what i could do to fix this.

I put 1L ice bottles in the buckets every 24 hours. You can keep the temps down longer if you wrap the buckets with a few layers of reflectix from home depot, or just bubble wrap or anything really. Not sure if ice will or will not slow some root growth that it contacts... but I do know you can grow a lot of dank as fuck bud with ice bottles in the res.

If you use aquashield you will probably be fine up to 74-75* if everything else is correct.

I should put a little Aquafina bottle floating in my sig.

I used frozen bottles for.years in dwc and aero and never a problem.. anything is better than the temps you have now.

i also use frozen bottles but i have a controller bucket so it doesnt actually come in contact with the roots, but these two guys know what they are talking about for sure so i think you'll be fine. As superstoner said frozen bottle coming in contact with your roots is the lesser evil.

That, and paint a few coats of white on the outside of your buckets! Dark colors absorb heat, and light colors reflect it!

so spraying the tray my pots sit on white and leaving under side black that covers res will be a bit better then the full tray being black and also outside of res white?

Or you could bite the bullet, get a chiller, and leave your water bottle worries behind.

Did you know that air pumps blow hot air into your res?

This would be why I tell people to find the coolest corner of their basement, and then setup close to there! The placement of the air pumps is critical if you want to attempt keeping your res cool enough without the need of a chiller!

Did I mention I have been hovering around 62*F res temps for this round!?! Yes it is still rather cool outside, but DAMN!

To OP: DO NOT paint any tray portion that will be in contact with plants/roots/grow medium/Feed/Nutrients/Water! That shit just don't mix! If your tray is directly above your res, then get it covered A.S.A.P! Also, yes it will help painting the outside of your res if it is in the same area as your lights!(just an added layer of "insulation" to say the least because light bounces off of things that you wouldn't imagine!
