RIU Security

Ok so I was wondering....just how safe is posting grow journals and such for those of us who reside in locations where cultivating cannabis is illegal?

Assuming we use no information that could be easily traced back to us...

Can LEO's track IP's and find out where we are doing our journalling?

I am hoping an admin will chime in as well as anyone with an opinion.

This question is important to me because I grow only for personal use and do everything I can to keep a lower profile! Non-profit in the truest sense!

I would suggest you use a proxy. You have the right to remain silent.

What if I am using a phone to access the internet?

No disrespect I am not being a smart ass. But I know my rights. Why say that?

If you use a phone will you be able to post pix?

You are actually more secure with dial up than broadband, however if a Judge gives a warrant and the server is in the US ......

You could use a web based proxy, something like surf-anon.com Just google "anonymous surfing websites" and you'll find lots of sites

Yeah I can't upload pics on my phone. What are the chances of having issues with no proxy just posting about a small journal?

You should neither login or post anything here without a proxy. Internet security 101 dude. Why trust anyone but yourself with your identity? Me I go through lotsa hoops. It makes thing slow, but slow and steady wins the race to keep my butt outa jail.

Can I setup a proxy on a phone?

you can...........but its a pain in the ass, well on my phone it is.

That is a good question? Phones That are disposable would be better. Do not put your grow on your phone.

Cell phone companies keep radical usage records the pictures you send can stay on the phone companies servers for months or longer if not overwritten. Cell phones are much easier to get court or judge approval to "Tap". So you got gps record, detail log of the crime and photos. Plus the excellent usage records.....To hard to clean up if all goes wrong. Disposable phone minus GPS send photos away from the grow because cell towers can triangulate your location without gps.

Its the internet, it has to be true right.

Do not make it easy for your own slam dunk.
Good example is the talk of pulling cell records after accidents. They do this already and I am not sure if they even get a court order. One accident later and your grow comes across a traffic cops desk. The traffic cop sees a promotion........

If they wanted to find you by using RIU, they probably could man. Thats the honest truth. But if they ever wanted to go after somebody posting on riu, theyd be lookin for the people who boast about larger commercial operations, not the ones asking for help on their 5 plant growtent in their closet. One way to hide your connection is using a proxy server, as stated before. There are websites like www.hidemyass.com or other sites that are advertised in the banners on here, that you can go to and they will take you to rollitup via their website, acting as a proxy server, or buffer, hiding your actual ip address and replacing it with one they provide.

Another way to do it would be to go get yourself an Apple iphone 3g. You can easily jailbreak the phone, and then use it as a server to connect your pc or laptop to. it has a built in proxy server application that you can use, so that way your not working on prefabbed proxies that well known websites use on a daily basis to help you hide your ip address. Theres tutorials all over the internet on how to do this, and its actually pretty uncomplicated, so if your that worried about wether or not somebody is gonna come knockin on your door, there are ways around it so you can still post on riu without having to worry all the time as to wether somebody is gonna come after you for it. But make no mistake about it, if they wanna find you online, it wouldnt take a whole lot for them to accomplish it man.

I have a 3G G1. Brand new.

Has anyone ever heard of someone gettin popped cause riu, when they had no odor issue, no one else knew, only 600 watts, etc? Like it was riu that did them in?

Plus I have no connection to my grow location. Have set it up pretty well.

Just what I need something else to worry about...I know they can, but they can do anything they want as long as they don't ask first...like break into your house.

So I have posted my grow journal here with no proxy since Aug

1. Are they really busting people off RIU...anyone know someone who this has happened to?

2. Since I have already posted with no proxy, wouldn't the bastards have my IP address and hiding it now would be a waste of time.

I am a 215 patient but I have trouble staying under the controversial "12 immature OR 6 mature plants" as starting over by obtaining overpriced clones or illegally obtained beans.
