Root Bound or not

Ok so I have a plant in a five gallon container. It's a sativa that has been monster cropped and it's less than five feet (maybe close to five without trellissed). So here's my question the pot was in a saucer that was too small and there was soil in the saucer so I had roots grow into the soil. The plant showed some slight signs of stress on. The lower leaves but it was never drinking fast and I'm doubtful the bitch is rootbound for this reason (also it hasn't been in the five gallon long and my experience tells me the pot is fine for the size of the plant). She's going into week three of flowering my question is do you think she's rootbound or is this simply a matter of the roots growing into the soil thinking the pot was bigger. If this is the case the anaerobic conditions in the saucer would accounts for the slight stress and it would make a lot more sense given the size of the plant/pot and the fact that it has only been there a short time and never fed fast enough to account for a rootbound pot. Should I just prune the exposed roots and keep it in this container?

yes leave it. trim the exposed roots away if you want...dont leave the pot sitting in run off swill water. Dont try and transplant a plant thats in flower = stress.
