Root bound while in late flower?

First off Ill start by telling you what I'm working with. I have 16 plants growing inside under a 1000 watt hps on a light rail mover. I picked up all 16 plants as clones then veged for 4 weeks. Oh yea there three different strains. Grand daddy purps, purple lavender, fire purps. There in three gallon pots full of fox farm ocean forest. I'm also using the complete fox farm nutes. Anyways the lavenders got to be five feet tall so I had to bend them over and then raised the others to the light because they only got to be about two-three feet tall. What I'm seeing now is the shorter plants have bigger hard buds where as the bigger ones are thin and light looking I'm worried that mabey there root bound? I have about three to four weeks left in flowering should I worrie about transplanting the larger ones or are they fine this far into flowering. Would it harm them to trasplant this far along?

sounds like someone likes his purps.... i made a road trip to cali an bought some gdp man was that shit killer!!! 2 bowls an i was out for a 3 hour nap

i wouldn't transplant. if the roots do happen to pop out cover them in dirt otherwise try to get by without transplanting a lot of work plus you could very well kill your girl..

Thanks for your feedback Next grow I'm going to use these smart pots. Have you heard of these they air prune the roots so you never get rootbound and they breath well just what I need.

1 gallon for each foot or 1 galllon for each month. 3 gallon would be good for 3-4 months. a 2 gallon would be good for 2-3 months

I had some massivly rootbound plants last year for my outdoor grow. Up to 6 plants in a 3 gallon planter. I transplanted 2 of them into 5 gallon buckets during flower. The roots filled up the extra space very quickly and i didnt notice any stunting. In fact, the contrary happend.

the term "root-bound," is a questionable problem. imo, there's no such thing. so your rootmass has reached the confines of your container, and is growing out. leave any plant in the same container and it's only a matter of time until it outgrows it. as long as all of your plants nutritional needs are met, the plant will do fine.

WOW thats crazy your grow is almost like you described mine. ive got some purps going too and they are atleast 5 ft tall. I had to bend mine aswell and they do seem lanky. I was wondering the same thing about being root bound cuz its so fucking massive. and i did the uncle ben tec to them so they are 4 mains that tall. im ina a 4 gallon pot and i just decided to feed it allittle more than the others. seems to have helped purk up the purp. but like you i got 4 more weeks to go atleast. we shall see.:wall:

That is very true, but only the advanced grower can pull that off. Like the party cup competitions. These are for people who know what they are doing. It takes a lot of work to keep a root only plant alive when you are not using hydroponics.
I recall how hard it was to keep my plants fed when they were overly root bound. Roots only dont hold water for shit.

just to let you know im a landscaper and see how plants get root bound inside contianers all the time.if you still have 4 weeks to go take root ball out and use a razor blade knife cut in ahalf inch many times around the ball put the root ball back in. take a 1/4 inch drill bit and drill holes (like 6)just inside from the outside edge.then put as much new soil on the top as you can.this will work good for you till havest. .

for us who grow in small spaces we do what we can. and we do good to even try. some people have not found the rewards of our work. gess some have more money then time. i would be happer to grow a $500.00 an oz then to pay for it with money. but thats just me ,old school!

yea dont transplant..the only time i would transplant during flowering is the first week but would try to do it right before flowering..HEY where did u get that LAVENDER from? im in cali to and never see Lavender in clone form? Lavender is my favorite type of purp tho along with grape ape..U got any pics? i wanna see that lavender..ive only smoked lavender never seen a lavender plant tho

I had this problem once but I was only 3 weeks into 12/12, It was in a 6.5 litre SQ pot so I brought a 10 litre sq pot, Filled the bottom 3-4 inch with coco and put the 6.5litre pot in the 10 litre pot, giving the roots a little extra room but not enough to stress it a lot during flowering.

It worked well.

So when a plant becomes so rootbound the rootball tightens up and literally chokes its self and the plant dies, This isnt rootbound? -.-

as long as a plants nutritional needs are met, it doesn't require an enormous root system. sog plants are rootbound, lol. also, the majority of the root system is finished growing in the first few weeks of flower.... why transplant???

hey guys this might help..... i get to pieces of pvc piping and drill as many holes as i can into it and then put them in when i translant my clones. i guess it acts abit like an airpot but probably not as good, these are in 55litre pots and over 6ft tall and havnt switched to flowering yet, ive never tried without the pipes so i cant tell u 100% if it makes a difference

i agree with the root bound theory if all the plants are getting the nutes that they need well them you should be all set my last grow some of my plants were over 6ft tall and the roots barley even came out of a 4inx 4in rockwool cube
