Root bound??

My last grows, I have transplanted to fairly large pots in the late veg stage. Like, 5 to 7 gallons. In my reading, I have come across lots of examples of folks having good luck with smaller pots. Seems in Europe and the UK it is more common to use smaller pots? So I am giving smaller pots a try. What will the plant do to show she is root bound? Here are a couple of mine at 21 days 12/12. Three gallon fabric pots. Anyone see signs of trouble? Critical Jack, PE and WOS Afgan Kush x Skunk

They look fine to me. Signs that I am starting to think of as examples of a plant being root bound are yellowing of the lower leaves and super quick dry out. The first is clearly not evident on your girls. How often are you watering?

Good thinking with the tomato cages. I use them all the time.
A good rule of thumb is that a 3-gallon pot is fine to support a plant for 3 months. So you are smart to look for smaller pots.

The Critical Jack is a strange phenotype. Even after Fim'ing her in the third week of vegging I ended up with a 6-foot plant. So
if space is a consideration I would top her early in veg and again before she goes to flower. That'll keep the height down for you.

Also, the Afghan Kusk from World of Seeds is a great choice! She finished in 6 weeks for me and cured 35 grams in a 6-quart pot.

One sign of a root bound plant is sudden rapid yellowing of the fan leaves, then the sugar leaves.
The green fades away and the leaf drops off. The leaves are just starved of nutrients.

I can see single yellow lower leaves in pics 1 and 3. With root bounds plants that is what happens with
all the lower leaves and then leads its way up the top.

Thanks for your replies. They whine for water every 3rd day or so. And yeah our cat, Scooter doesn't get to be around the plants unsupervised and if he eats my plants we're gonna have a problem.I tell ya BigSteve I have liked that plant from the gitgo. Freebie from Attitude and she has a great attitude.

The Critical Jack I have is the top photo above with 3 heads. She should have 4 but the dumbass who topped her got careless and cut off one of the growing shoots. Big Steve you said yours was 6 ft? This one has been a ground pounder the whole way. She is maybe 2 and a half ft tall and seems to be finishing the stretch.

I only use 3gal. Containers. I agree as mentioned before, you can get away with the smaller container size if you only intend to have that plant for a short period if time. I look at my root mass after I chop every plant. They allways have a very large root mass. But it's ok to a certain extent, your feeding them everything they need to thrive.

You dont have to worry about rootbound because farbic pots is prune rooting, it wont rootbound that for sure.

you will need to pay attention more on the water , small pots will dry faster than large pots, espeically flower at their peak.

Otherwise your ladies looks great
