rootbound, clueless newbie

hey.

let's say hypothetically you ran into an utter newbie who joined this and maybe another forum AFTER getting like 4 weeks into veg. (plz hold the haha)

Let's also say said newbie chose an inappropriately small container for his surviving fem and she's 10 days into flowering.

Newbie in question may have a plant that is like 20" and showing gender but not really budding yet. His leaves are curling some at the top and showing yellow from the sides in with newer fan leaves (top 1/3 of plant).

Newbie assumes after reading the forums that moisture stress, nute delivery as a result of roots at the source.

Maybe you'd be inclined to help the newbie decide between:

a) watering now very frequently (to-date mostly 2x/wk) and hoping for harvest + learning experience,

b) topping to reduce plant's limited energy supplies going to growing flailing top of plant,

c) take to plant dumpster, start fresh with suuuper limited bag beanz available

Anyone?

I guess I'd ask how bit this inappropriately small container is?
How about re-pot into a 3 gallon vessel, water profusely & go from there.

If the plants are indeed root bound, and from how much you say you have to water, they are, then you should be able to grab the stems, and pull the entire root ball out, soil and all. Put this into a large planter with soil and water. If the roots are penetrating the surface of the planter they are in now, then when you transplant, add soil to the top to cover the roots that are being exposed. They may grow upwards still, but at least you have something on top of them that will protect them from drying out.
