Im looking at buying one of them seedling starter trays, the cell tray part. They have see through trays so you can see roots without removing them...but somewhere im thinkin i read roots dont like light so i was wondering could clear cloning trays be used without harm being done to new roots in the event the roots may possibly be exposed to light?

No. Algae will form because it only needs water, light, and nutrients. your plants roots will compete with the algae to get the oxygen and nutrients, and you'll start having problems.

If you don't put any nutrients in the water you can use clear items...or algae will grow.
You will also need to keep a good eye on them when roots are seen...you'll have a few days to plant them or they just kind of stall in growth since roots won't grow much in light.
I use clear trays and cups without an issue.

I do plan on putting a light dose of nutrients in the water.
On that same note...as I obviously dont have the tray of any type right now, and I'm not trying to drive to Lowes accross town in the snow for off season products, does any one think if I used the bottom of an egg carton, cut the lid off, put some holes in the bottom of it then put that in a 1020 seedling tray with water in the bottom like i would if I actually HAD the proper tray, would that do the trick? I basically just need something to hold up the rapid rooter medium and keep it out of that water right?

Get resourceful, use old tubs with plastic film, have clone in rooting cube or other conducive media. You can waste so much $.........I've had great luck improvising.......for ventilation just make some holes that can be positioned by moving into place when needed.

Oops...I was in a clone head...thought you were cloning.....I start seed in wet covered paper towel....upon germination right into grow media.

lol...I actually am setting up to cut some clones off my GG4 plant...ive never done it before but i had bought some really good GG4 from a dispensary and found an "immature" seed, well i did my thing with it and have a dispensary-level quality GG4 plant that Josey Whales himself would definitely give a positive nod to and i wanna keep her goin...one of my fav strains and that seed came from really good bud. I was gonna try without a cell tray cause i saw a dude do it on youtube so i knew it was possible. He also had to pick thim back up after they fell over several times. And nearly every vid ive watched on it says to have one of those things...thats why i asked about using an egg carton and put holes in the bottom, well that and im too impatient to wait for amazon to deliver!
I also have a Ghost Train Haze goin i want to clone...shes a beauty, most symmetrical veger ive ever grew!

Pic: Bigger one in back is the GG4 "mother to be", other is the ghost traine haze

Nutrients in the water is not recommended, other than rooting hormone on the stem. You want the plant to grow roots looking for nutrients, if the plant doesn't have to look for nutrients it takes longer to grow roots.
