Roots growing upwards!!!!

I am growing in a pot outside and i have recently noticed small roots growing up from the soil.
There are roots growing down to the holes on the bottom.
I am telling myself that this is due to over-watering perhaps, since my area has had some rainfall recently.
I just want to know for sure.
I wish i could post pics but i have xD card reader and a SD card

might be from over watering. I usually let my plants starve a bit so the roots go down more looking for water.

agreed. did not water yesterday and they are staying under the soil.
