Roots, roots, and more roots.

I'm using a Waterfarm. Looked at my roots today and the bottom portion that were sitting in the water looked great. White, not slimey, ect. However, the top portion that were coming directly from the bucket were kind brown/black. I am using B-52 which is that color. Is it the stain from the B vitamins or is it more likely root rot?
