Rosin press, pressure, price, output trim

Iam Think about buying a graveda rosin press.
I want to make a solventfree extract.
I want to juse good quality trim.

How much pressuer should the press make.
Graveda has 2
one small with 600kg (Plate Size 7.5cm×5cm / 2,9×1,9 inc)
And a bigger one with 10 tonnes (plate Size 12cm×6cm /4,7×2,3 inc)

Most vids I've seen online the people are smashing nugs at 2 tons.

I woukd think anything above 2-5ton is overkill.
Like everything has a point of ‘no more squish’

But no experience personally

Straight trim makes the lowest quality rosin. Either use buds or turn the trim into kief for highest quality.

To answer your question i use 6 ton with 3" x 5" plates. I'm sure either press your looking at will make good rosin if used correctly and using the right starting material.

You should for sure listen to this guy that "no experience" really sold me.

As for good advice really think it through. trim is a pain in the ass to run its low yield and very time consuming you can't press very much at a time plus it takes a ton of filter bags which are pretty expensive especially when you start breaking a few. I have about $1000 worth of rosin pressing stuff in front of me ive made less than an oz of rosin with it this year I'll never even attempt to press trim again it's best to make the trim into bubble then press that

I've found that the 600kg personal presses leave something to be desired, mostly because of how they function. I'm not too familiar with this brand, but the other smaller low pressure presses I've used allow you to dial in your pressure with a tension nug. The problem with this is that the 600kg advertised pressure is easily off if your tension isn't set to ideal, which can lead to breaking of handles or simply not getting the most of your pressing.

2 - 4 ton presses I've found to be far more successful, but can also be unforgiving if pressure isn't applied correctly. Make sure to press slow and steady initially, warm the material up under a lower pressure for a few seconds and then proceed to apply more pressure. I've seen some horrid chlorophyll-filled presses from high pressure press machines that are pressed too quickly (some people just slam it down).

I use a 10 ton and rarely go over 4 tons, majority of presses flow nicely at 1 and 2 tons at an avg of 220. Then for your second press jack it up a bit but rarely past 4 without a blow out on the paper or bags. Its all about stages. Preferrably pre press your material then put it in an envelope (you make out of parchment) set it in your press with just enough pressure to hold it all together for a min, then take it to 1 ton, wait a min - it should flow - watch till it stops or slows then press a bit more till it stops. Guys go on about 2 or 3 min presses but thats bs just watch it and you'll know when to apply more pressure and when to stop. - Biggest tip is to get your seeds out of the bud to avoid that roasted nut taste.

Pressure is determined by the square footage your pressing. if your plate is 4.7" x2.3" you would use a 4"x2" bag. That's 8 square inches. if pressing flower you'd want it to be able to do up to 1000 psi, so that would need 8000 psi or 4 tonnes to hit that.
Design your press based on your plate size, I went with a 3x5 caged setup with a 10 tonne press I would need 15,000 psi or 7.5 tonnes to achieve the 1000psi on that plate size, I use smaller bags like 4x2's so I usually do 4 tonnes. I'll never need the full 10 tonnes but its better to not put your press at full blast.

Its so simple and cheep!
That a good info , i thinks i will use a 6 ton press
Bit cheeper then 10 .
And i dont Think that i will do bigger bag than 4×2

i get about 7g back from a 4x2 full of keif, figured youd like to know just for reference to know if you want bigger plates. mine are 3x5 plates with 6 ton. i do a 37u bag filled almost to top then slide a 120u bag over it.

I soak my used pucks in everclear and it is always worth it

Nice thread. I usually mash at 165 to 170 the first time. Then after the first mash I up the temp to 210 and food the pancakes over and mash again. 6 ton 3x5 setup. No bags. I hate the loss. It's personal use only. I use a volcano at 357 magnum setting with the drip pad. I'm enjoying some adub at the moment. I have a sativa leaning strain that is rocket fuel mashed. Not much recovery though. But pressing isn't very efficient but a healthier choice. Anybody use rosin to make edibles?

I love pressing some fresh buds with no screen best stuff to smoke imo. but not the strongest high most people that buy want that nice clear rosin. one of these days I'm going to low temp some buds then re press that through a screen at really low temp hopefully it's some clear really high terp rosin I always feel I lose some flavor with the screens but I've heard pressing twice at low temp can be really nice. I've heard alot of people use 2 screens of different sizes per press like at 27-36 micon inside 120 micron around that I want to try that out soon too but I mostly like smoking flower
