Sandy soil question

image.jpgSo I've picked two spots. One spot I dug my holes about two feet down and a foot and half across. It's not clay, but the soil is very sandy with a ph of about 6.9 per the meter.

Secondly it rain this am, so each hole filled with water after a few mins. Summers are normally pretty dry, hence why I want to get this near the natural spring. Anyone experience with this? I am planning on mixing the sandy soil with some Scott's with moisture control. Hoping to get a ph of 6.5.

Lastly there some small growing trees. Will these block out too much light, or would it provide great coverage from the sky?

Try finding a spot further away from that water source, for 3 reasons.

1. Medium should have less sand further away.
2. Insects in heavily wooded areas love to chow down on cannabis, I've had plants stripped to stalks within 48 hours when I was new, and used a location very similar to your photo.
3. Sand based mediums are much more difficult to work with than clay.

Here's some hints for you, some sand in the soil is good because it helps keep the soil looser. Sandy soil and potting mix usually drain almost too well, sometimes won't hold moisture. Regular clay soil WILL hold moisture usually unless it's compacted and dry, and roots will grow in it but it takes amendment to make it good for the plant. Instead of potting soil with moisture control, get a bottle of polymer beads available in most garden shops for water retention. About 1 teaspoon of it will hold almost a quart of water.

also you wanna dig your hole a little wider. trust me ive made the mistake before the wider the better if your looking to grow a bushy/wide tree.

that sand looks rather compacted + looks like there is not much organic matter just straight sand. IMO cannabis would struggle to produce a worth bud

to tell if a hole is a proper hole for a guerilla spot.. dig a hole come back in a few hours and
if the hole has water in the bottom of it check that spot of ur list, water level is too high.
and if the water doesn't soak away in a hole when it rained check it off ur list as well

Good points. Thanks guys. Actually found some perfect spots on opposite side. Will work on making them wider in next couple weeks. Won't put into grown until third week in April.
