i've made probably hundreds of seed orders in my career as a seed whore.. one package of the 100s hasn't made it to me but was rather caught up in customs.. all i got from them was my package, minus the seeds and instead of their place was a letter telling me that someone had tried to mail me contraband..
than on it it had all sorts of contraband from fireworks to amyl nitrates to steroids, and lastly it simply said drugs.. the drugs box was checked and hand written next to it it said seeds..
they told me i could come out to chicago to pick them up if i really wanted them that bad, which i really didn't, lol, and nothing more has happened.. it says it on the bottom of the letter that no further actions would be taken..
this is the worst that will happen if they snag your seeds.. like i said, 100 or so orders in the past few years, and only one got snagged..
look around on here as there are plenty of threads about reliable seed banks that ship to the us... fyi, i live on the east coast of the us..

Funny that you have a Tarantula as an avatar DSB.

My input to this thread is that in my 'yester-year' I was deep rooted into the study of invertebrates. Myself and my many of my colleagues would send (live) specimen through the mail all the time time. Weekly, sometimes daily. This includes coast to coast in the USA and international. Personally I've sent things to the UK, the Netherlands and some other places. My fellow researchers would even receive packages from countries many would sketchy. (Middle Eastern countries, like Yemen) The fact that the animals could successfully be shipped in such a manner meant that few packages actually got checked. How obvious is it to open a 2x2 box and see deli cups full of venomous animals?

Rest assure 99.5% of what goes through the mail is safe and isn't even blinked at.

(PS, what you read above is not professional nor ethical. However the carrier fees to transport live animals, especially venomous ones - are outrageous and unjust. Unless your talking about a circus animal or something. :))
