Scale on stem disease

Does anyone know if this is scale on the stem or what it is? Does it hurt the plant or is this normal? How do you get rid of it? It starts near the base and moves up the stem.

ive had scaly-ness o the base of huge bushes, but that's from stretching and overgrowth. the sign of a overly healthy plant. but urs isn't exactly the same, the scales on my plants only appeared on the bottom of the plant.

Anyone else ever seen anything like this? Could it be a fungus? This strain has had PM and wonder if this is the PM on the stem? Any ideas?

No way that's PM, I've never seen it like that.. All I ever get is like maryjaneslave said when the plant stretches, it basically sheds the out layer off so it gets bigger. But it doesn't look like what you got..

Yea I've had that and other round scaly looking bumps. Only once on some outdoor plants they ended up "recovering" after a few weeks

Those can be Scales (a small hard shelled insect) or it could be caused by high humidity or possibly a fungus. Whatever it is i would say that it is very rare indoors and i would not switch the photoperiod until is has cleared up.

Actually after looking for a bit longer my professional guess is it is some sort of epidermal fungus. Try spraying with Serenade.

Have Actinavate and will give that a go but will probably pick up Serenade as a second treatment option. If it is some type of epidermal fungus wonder if anyone else has a thread on this attacking plants.
