So I know there are some other RuI members on here who like to relax with a nice dram of scotch or bourbon.

What are you drinking? Whats your next bottle?

Currently I have open

Glenamorangie Quinta Ruban, Balvennie doublewood 12, Balvenie Caribbean Cask 14, laphoriag 10year

Anyone get any of the Pappy or BTAC releases this year? Im not much of a bourbon drinker but I know these are super hot commodities and go quick. I would probably enjoy bourbon if I had a good glass, just never had the chance.

I am really looking into a bottle of Lagavulin 16yr, a replacement bottle of Auchentoshan, probably their three wood, and aberlour a'bunadh.

Sipping on a dram of Laphroaig right now, like a campfire in my mouth. Delicious.

Bourbon is whisky, not whiskey - i think. Love my Bourbon, but I only drink it when I go out for some reason. Pouring one at home never occurs to me unless friends are over.

I think you've got it backwards, unless is a North Americanism. In Scotland, we produce whisky (no "e"), which outside of Scotland is known as Scotch, either single malt or blended. I think whiskey (with an "e") refers to the Irish or American product. All bourbon is whiskey, but not all whiskey is bourbon.

Is that right?

THEY ALL HAV ONE MASSIVE THING IN COMMON....

THEY TASTE FUCKING HORRIBLE!!!
I know that MILLIONS of SCOTCH WHISKEY drinkers cannot ALL BE WRONG
But, to me, the taste and the smell of MALT WHISKEY is truly revolting.

BOURBON is much more tolerable.
It's not nice
but is it is far less disgusting than the SCOTS/IRISH stuff.

Give me a glass of coke and a selection of sniffing/smoking substances any day!
Drinking is too much like punishment
(and the 'high' is miserable).

Never acquired the taste for Scotch. Tonight I've got a new one I've never had that was a gift, Michter's Sour Mash. Supposed to be outstanding!

Through some inconceivable oversight, I was allowed to acquire the entire contents of my Grandfathers liquor cabinet which had not been touched in 15 years. OMG

There were a good dozen pre-prohibition and prohibition whisky. All perfect. Tax stamps on some. I figure he just held onto them to show he could still score during that era. He died in the early 70s. Top shelf stuff, no rotgut. All bonded. Some aged for 25 years (making this stuff distilled in the 19th century). Over the years, my close friends and i drank it all - with ritual and fanfare - from his crystal shot glasses. We would bring the bottle (and glasses) to the best bar I have ever known and the owner would pour it for us until we finished it. He would drink with us and tell us speakeasy stories. He and my closest friend (and companion on all these outings) are both dead now. Really treasure the experience. Cheers!

I always preferred rum
Never met too many that would take rum neat..most felt it was strictly for mixers..I felt like they were basing this on one or a few bad rums especially certain spiced rum
But I never cared for whiskey of any type. Idk..it may be tied to my childhood

Well, there are a lot of bad rums (redrum!). But a good rum is something much much better.

...when I was in my late 20's, a friend and I used to drink Lemon Hart 151 rum. We called it "Jim Jones" rum as it came from Guyana. A couple of really drunk sessions cured me of drinking rum and don't think I've had any since then:)

the bad news is that most of it doesn't age in the bottle.

LEMON HEART!!! best rum on the planet, second is a blended rum - Pyrate.

Got a speakeasy story.


My father worked for the most famous italian restaraunt in Manhattan. He was a wine steward who didn't know wines for shit. One day he went down into the basement of this place - that at the time served people like General Eisenhour and Judy Garland. He had to go down into the basement where he found out that it had been an old speak easy. Down in the depths he found a big filing cabinet. He looked through it and there were hundreds and hundreds of small cards most of them had the names of famous people of the era, their bar tabs - and their signatures. The thing would now be worth millions. When he told his boss what he had found the boss told him to get rid of it - so he threw it in the garbage behind the place
