hi all, i have just germinated some seeds and potted them up in some soil when the taproots were about 15mm (they came out quick and i have been at work all day). all my question really is, vv
does my seeds need light yet or is it only when they emerge from the soil that they need light ?? aso how long before i can put them under my 400w hps ?? thanks for reading please post.

I personally light up my unpopped seeds as i germinate them straight into my medium (soil/rockwool)etc

Do you currently have a CFL or T5 etc to use while they are still young?

I usually allow my plants to reach the 2nd node under a small T5 24w then move them under a 200w CFL until they reach around 6 nodes high and then under my 600w. Usually takes around 2-4weeks before i put them under my 600w flowering lamp.

i dont have a cfl, just a hps in my growroom at the minute. i was told the hps was fine for the full cycle of the plant ?? would they just grow on my windowsill until they are okay to go under the hps ? how high would you recomend the bulb is from the plant when it first goes in the room is it okay if the bulb at about 1.7 metres away ??

Go ahead and put them under the light. They won't need it until the leaves form, but it won't hurt to put them under lights early. I do that just because its easier. I don't even bother pre-germinating. I sow, water, and put under light, then forget about them for a few days.
