Seed Mother Plant?

just wandering if their is any advantage/disadvantages of having a mother plant from seed or from cuttings?

a couple of people ive spoke to have advised taking cuttings from the seed born plant and then selecting a mother from the cuttings? which i can understand is better as you can pik the strong from the weaker plants.

but is ther any advantages/disadvantages to mothering from seed?
