Seed Plants and Clones -- Your input on the differences/variances appreciated

I've grown plants from both seed and clone. Also have grown clones from a mother that originated from seed. I'm seeking comments regarding the differences noted between the mother and the clone. Theoretically, if they are gentically identical, then there should be no difference (except the lack of tap root) so why do some growers insist that they never really know a strain until the clone has been grown out?

I'm currently growing some Pre98 Bubba x Querkle -- so will the strongest, most potent mother plant produce the strongest, most potent clones?

Just curious...I have no opinion or bias on this topic...simply seeking input.

Theres been the SAME CLONE ONLY strains going around for 30 plus years!!
These include THE ORIGINAL GRAND DADDY PURPLE
Jack herrer
and original white widow these are bayarea strains by the way

I understand that once the plant is a clone it stays stable. Simply interested in anyone who has noted difference between the mom and the first gen clone.

Oh only thing i can think of is hermies? say you take a clone from your mother plant and that clone hermies had it happen once.
Only that single clone did that none other in the vegging room kinda weird but never happened again

Thanks "Full of Purple." I'm sure environmental factor come into play sometimes and create some variation -- like those damn hermie bananas!

phenotypical expression can actually be influenced by location (elevation,humidity, temperature,weather if outside), so if a mother produces well she should always produce well, but the bud structure and overall appearance might vary slightly if grown by a different person or in a different location. for example, right now i have 2 platinum og at 8 weeks, one is block headed and very dense while the other is slightly more foxtailed. same bud,same smell, just different appearance because one is sitting closer to my ac inlet and stays a couple degrees colder with more direct light.

but some plants will never grow any differently without dramatic enviromental changes, my green crack finishes in 7 weeks and will do so in the best locations under direct light, or shaded in the corner of the canopy.

I think when you grow from seed the plant grows stronger and a little faster. One plant i had started from seed grew really short and bushy and the yield was great. I had taken some clones from that plant thinking i would start a mom and run a few more. when i ran the clone growing in the exact same enviroment it grew really long and lanky and didnt yield nearly as much as from the seed.

i think its called hybrid vigor or something when u start from seed and it grows stronger then there clones.

Thanks for sharing your experience. What a bummer to have such a nice seed Mom and then have limited success with the clone.

I could be mistaken, but I have always thought Hybrid Vigor was a description of the extra "uuumph" a plant has when it is the F1, a result of first generation cross breeding between two different strains.

i think youre right about that hybrid vigor having to do with the cross. I think its kinda what happened to me the plant from seed had hybrid vigor and its clones didnt share that it seems.

After trying this dozens of times I don't see any difference. Depending on how you transplant seed plants may end up taller because seedlings are often lankier.
