Only time il use a paper towel is to see if a batch of seeds is still good before I invest lots of time and soil into popping them. Otherwise in the dirt with some moisture and WALLA!! imagine that, almost like nature intended.

I hate breaking off roots, I also prefer planting them straight into whatever medium I want to use.
Lately, I just fill the centre of an old toilet roll with vermiculite and coco, then stick my seed in there. Foam cup with holes in bottom works too.
I keep mine under a light, with the heat from the light warming it up just a little. This stops seedling from stretching after germination.

The big secret is to never stir around looking to see if it germinated. Just leave it the fuck alone.
I might add a tablespoon of water in the morning and evening. The roll keeps the mixture wet yet breathing.
When ready to plant, cut a slit along the side of toilet roll, stick it in the pot, fill with medium, then just wriggle the roll off.
If you don't see anything in a week, plant a new seed.

Jeesh i didnt say starting in soil isnt the way to go. If your only starting a few seeds. If you plan on popping a full tray and keeping the best strongest. Have a full time job and kids. Plugs are awsome they save time and space. As soon as the legal comerical facilities stop useing them ill stop useing them.

Oh but you did there whitebb i made a comment abought condensation in the dome that you said was false. Rapid rooters arnt gadgets. They are a tool. Plants have sprouted since the beginning of time with no help true. Does that mean farmers thould trash there plows. Should my grandma through out her hoe and shovel? She probably could but the tools she uses makes her job easier. Ill let Silver State know they can get rid of there lights co2 burners and in line fans. Because cannabis growing dosnt need fancy gadgets. Just because you personaly dont use a method dosnt mean its wrong or dosnt work. What works for one wont work for everyone. Never never tell an experienced gardener to stop doing something that works like a charm for them. If its not broke dont try to fix it. Thats what mechanics do when they are tring to run a scam. For instance the coco/ vermiculite in a tp roll seems a bit time consuming to me that and i hate coco for seedlings, but if its working why try to fix it
