Seedling help

Hi peeps iv started again with a new grow. I sprouted my seed in a paper towel and it cracked and it sprouted. The tap root got about 1cm long then i planted it. Iv keept it moist ect but the seed wont open anymore. Its been a few days now and it doesnt seem to be making any progress. I have another seed also but its in another pot and it for some reason looks like the first (round seed leafs) are stuck together... Not the seed skin but a growth mutation or something. Any help would be great. Also should i keep them warm ? If they in soil. And should the seed be visible? The tap root would be about a inch or so in the soil now but im not sure if i should keep the top of the seed covered in soil or not

Iv just put a bit of soil on top of it now....

Shes opened up now and looks good. The first set of actual "weed leaves" are quite small though? I may not have ever paid attention to this though so im guessing thats normal? Il upload a pic soon

Iv got her on 18/6 and she looks ok. I also bought to new CFLs, 18watts 1040 lumens each. Im keeping the real close with a fan blowing on the lights to keep cool with a LITTLE breeze going over the plant. Should be ok? They are 6500k's so should be better than the previous 4000k's i was using..

After reading ur description of ur seedlings, I'd say that yeah you need to plant sprouting seed a bit deeper in soil - about 1 inch down with seed case fully covered, tap root facing down if poss. Also, since u papertowelling, u could always let a longer 1 inch taproot grow out before transplanting, as I find they more likely to root than a 1cm taprooter.

Also definitely keep them warm, 20c at least and dont let soil stay too wet as cold and/or excess moisture discourages taproot search growth. Though I've had odd few bagseeds/shit quality ones that sprouted tip then never did anything at all, so bad genetics defects can just happen too.

And finally if the 1st set of leaves are ever stuck u can just gently prise them apart as normally its just abit of shell membrane that needs delicate peeling off. Same for if they ever pop soil with seed shell still on head - wait till it inch or 2 outta soil then slowly prise it open & off.
And as far as i know, size of 1st cotyledon leaves is irrelevant and doesn't indicate anything much - I think their size is purely a genetic expression only, since all seeds got enough energy to grow 1st set no matter what - though I poss. maybe wrong on that.

Lol! Just seen little baby seedling pic - looks coolio dude! Stem looks thick in comparison to leaf size and nice small,hairy purplish colour stem. Bit young to tell that much obviously but looks cool!

And I like ur description of ur set- up too - sounds like u got it all covered well & running smooth.

Hi there, yeah everyone is right, you need to push it a bit further down, and the opening of the seed needs to be facing down for the embryo to seek out the moisture and develop roots. Now it's a good idea to plant at least 5-6 seeds, that way you have an optimal chance of getting a Fem in your batch - unless your rocking feminized seeds, then disregard. Personally, i'm a hydro kind of guy, but soil with the right nutrients can have it's advantages too .

The baby fan leaves look healthy and happy, and that's what you want. The sproutling looks perfect right now, just flip that other seed over, where the opening is facing downward, and push it down just a lil bit further, then pour some water over the soil to taunt that embryo out.

maybe i read your reply wrong but other seed? theres only one seed in that pot. and iv posted a pic further up the post where she has sprouted. From past experiance, dark brown bigger seeds are usually fems.. And without stress it should be female. hopefully. i didnt want to put the seedling too deep as iv heard if the stem gets to moist it can rot... Il keep an eye on it for a few more days and keep this post up to date with my grow. Only time will tell i guess

i do have two other healthy sprout growing in another pot as backups just in case this one has any problems. as far as i can tell if it grows happily and healthy for atleast the first week or so she should be fine from then on out. if it does grow the other two will either be tossed or il leave them and see how long they live for as an experiment lol

You can plant with tap root up. It will pull the shell off. Half inch deep. The tap root turns down and the opening faces up and pulls the shell off as it grows.
