seedling wont shed shell

I have a seedling in store brand soil, I've used it for several other grows with great results, and the seedling sprouted but won't open up and shed the shell. It's under a 27w daylight CFL 24/0 and im using rainwater to keep the soil moist.

I planted it about a week ago and it sprouted a day after planting so it has been neutral for about 5 days now. The stem is green and the tap root is strong and definetly growing. Should I trash it or see what happens? I would hate to throw away my last seed/seedling of sour diesel. Thanks and happy growing

I had a shell hang out for 3-4 days not long ago as well, so I would not be too worried. you may want to try and let it dry out as much as possible before watering again, instead on keeping it constantly moist. Over watering will stun growth.the root grows to search for water which promotes the growth of your plant. could be why its idle. It is also young though.. and All strains act differently

Well I have a humidity dome so it stays moist but I only use it for the first week or so. So should I just let it do its thing?

yeah I would take the dome off too, I never use a dome unless I have cuttings waiting to root. Here is a pic of some of my babies that just broke ground, I didn't put a dome on them at all.

I like to use tweezers, close them and barely insert them into where the seed is cracked, then release them to pry the seed caseing open and off.

I'd do the opposite of letting it dry out. I'd keep it in the dome and actually drip some water on it. That way the shell would stay moist and continue to be pliable and break off. If the shell dries out it will be harder to shed IMO. If you drip some water on it the shell can loosen up and then it should come off on its own from the cotyledon leaves forcing it off. I'd keep a light above the humidity dome and also use a heat mat. I've messed with shells that have stuck on before and killed the sprout by ripping of the cotyledon leaves by accident. I wouldn't mess with it unless you think you have a really good chance of getting that shell off without damaging the cotyledon leaves which are very delicate.

get it out of the dome youre gonna rot it, pull the shell off gently with weezers, itll be fine, happens all the time, no dome for seedlings, light watering when dry, maybe a mist of water during the light not dark(mold), its a seed not a clone, domes are for clones because they need to feed from the leaves to develop roots, where a seed has a root system feeding from the soil or nutrients.

I have had this problem more times then I care to remember. The first time I didnt know what to do so I left it.. well turns out that wasnt the smart thing to do as it never shed the shell off and just died. Ever sense then if this problem happens I carefully try to pry it off (after letting nature try first for a few days). I have lost one yet sense. It really should come off quite easy, its just scary as hell to do trust me. Good luck with it, hope all turns out good.

as the leaves grow inside the shell it will crack and push open, just wait for it
if it doesnt sort itself out it was a wrongen to start with, nothing you did
or once you see it splitting you can help it open, i am quite impatient so i tend to help them along
putting it under as strong lighting as it can handle helps them, the heat and strong light keep them from stretching
and speed up the seedling process overall

peace :)

Thanks everyone for the replies. I left it for 2 days without the dome and then I finally pulled it off myself. Bad news though, the stem was getting thick so it was pressing against the sides of the shell. I'm not sure if that has to do with why the leaves never opened, even with a little help they closed back up and the plant eventually died. It's all good though, Ive already ordered new beans :)) has anyone worked with og kush or super silver haze? Thats going to be my next grow so I would love a little review on them
