Gow Media Cana Coco
Lights 2x 55w

Feed every other day
3 weeks old

Hello all, basically this is my first grow and im having a few problems to say the least.

Problem 1
First true leaves started to turn yellow and curl under light rams horns and tips turned white - i put this down to heat stress to removed one light.

Problem 2
Leaves still yellow - Added nutes to feed 2 weeks in as the leaves were yellow and the PH of the tap water was at 8 so i figured they were hungry. PH of nutes was 5.8 and i added a very small amount of cana a+b and rhizo. About half the recommended

Problem 3
Leaf tips got worse - Ok so i figured that the i may have abit of nute burn (only fed nutes twice) so i went back to standard tap water with a PH of 8

From here the leave are now abit yellow and some looked.... well not very well

Anyway guys hope you can help bcos i getting abit frustrated :wall:

I dont know if i should now:

1) start the nutes again lightly at ph 5.8
2) Try tap water and adjust ph to 5.8
3) leave and dont water for a few days as i may be overwatering.....?

Please, please please give me lots of ideas fellas.

Thanks

adjust your solution to 5.8, or anywhere in between 5.5 and 6.5. (your solution is water + nutes)

You need to fix a few things...they look very, very small for being three weeks old.

You need more lights, first off.

Next, I would start yourself off with a clean slate. Flush your pots over the next two or three waterings to set your soil straight back to a good pH. Then, see if they are beginning to improve. If not...then they are deficient in a nutrient and can address it then. But I would simply start off by flushing.

Your plants don't NEED nutrients...they survive in the wild just fine, but I would set your soil straight as it sounds like there are all kinds of nutrients or nutrient residues all in your soil.

Yeah stop nutrients they are way to shrimpy for that, let them branch out more they benefit more from photosynthesis than any nutrient you will give them, let your soil dry a little between watering if they are 3 weeks old.

Hey buddy hopefully I can help your frustrations go away.

First off your temps are fine and I don't believe you would have any heat stress, maybe lumen stress if anything but it does not look like it. I would run both lights just keep them a healthy distance away. I think you're using 2 55w cfls correct?

Next for the coco always adjust your watering and feedings to 5.8 or maybe even 5.5 but not any lower than that.

Now I believe you actually are having nutrient deficiency, your seedling are 3 weeks old and have been fed twice.
My friend had some plants in coco that he was going light on the nutes with and they displayed the same problems, when the nutrient levels increased the problems cleared up and vigorous growth resumed.

Nute burn and deficiency can actually appear somewhat alike, but according to your feeding and the age of your plants and their appearance and lack of growth they need food to me. One thing to remember is that coco has no nutrients in it like potting soil, so your 3 week old babies are real hungry at this point.

I would feed now with a full strength dose of veg nutes, adjust it down to 5.5 since you'vce been watering them with some of the 8.0 tap water. Also, use reverse osmosis water from the store instead of the tap water for now.

This is my best advice for your situation, I know it's best to err on the side of caution but I don't believe you have nute burn at all, you have deficiencies. A lot of people say you don't need to feed seedlings for 3 weeks and that may be true in some ammended potting soil but this is coco, you have no nutrients to start with. There only source of food is what you feed them with, I've seen seedlings started off in coco that were hungry in less than their first week alive.

So my best advice to you is to feed them. Anyone else agree or disagree?

First off thank guys for the good advice, very much appreciated.

The reason i thought it was heat stress at first was because i but the 55w flourescents say 7" abouve the plants i thought this was heat stress, which is why i turned a light off.

Ok so the plan is:

1)Put the second light away and raise the light level abit to avoid lumen stress

2)Carry on feeding with nutes

3) see what happens

The reason i started the feed was because as said in the last post, the coco has no nutrients hence the will need that little extra bit of food to kick start them.

Any more comments will be much appreciated.

Also i do have a 400watt HPS light, when should i look at starting to run this light instead of the flouresents?

Thanks agian for all the adivce :bigjoint::-P

Also forgot to mention i find it difficult to determin what the leaves are trying to tell me ie food, too much food, overwater etc...... as there are so many signs to look out for.

Thanks

You can switch a plant over to flowering really anytime you want to. That is when you want to use your HPS lamp.

I usually wait until there are about four or five sets of nodes on the plant before I start flowering. :)
