Seeds not Germinating, been almost a week

I had some WW seeds that I got from the flower market in amsterdam last year, and Im trying to germinate. I used about 5 seeds. I first put it on the wet paper towel inside a plastic bag, ontop of my computer for heat, for 3 days but that didnt work. So I read about another way where you put it inside water, Its been there for about 2 days. I even cracked the shell open to help the roots come out easier. Nothing still. All seeds have been kept in a dark place

I took some old bag seed I had and put it inside a wet papertowel, 2 days after the WW's. 4 have already germinated. Whats going on?? I want me white widow to pop up, but nothings happening. WHat else can I do?

Well, i heard somewhere that the faster the tap root comes out, the better the seed will be. It sucks how my badseed is germinating much faster than the WW I got from amsterdam

I can sympathise. When i was germinating my lot in exactly the same way as you mentioned they were spread out over days simply to produce any sign of life at all. upon planting into soil they came up at random seemingly working on individual time scales. eventually there was a couple of weeks between the first and last and thus i have plants at all stages of development, what a headache!

Sorry to say, but imho if you cracked the shell yourself (and they've been soaking in water for 2 dyas)... they're probably dead. In the most extreme circumstances, I believe it's okay to "skuff" the outermost seed casing with sandpaper or something abrasive to allow water to more easily permeate the outer layer... But it's my opinion that you should never go so far as to "crack" the shell open yourself.

Now, if the taproot has already popped through and the embryonic leaves (cotyledons) are struggling to break out of the casing, then I think it's okay to "crack" the shell open.

5 out of 5 seeds being dead is pretty high ratio... Whats the longest it can take, 2 weeks?
