Seeds vs Clones

I have been running the same shitty bag-seed / 2 crappy $20 dispensary clones for the last 2 years, and I feel like my knowledge has advanced enough to get some proper genetics. I am trying to figure out which route to take in regards to my next step in obtaining better genetics, and it's between ordering seed online or driving an hour and forty-five minutes to the nearest "reputable" clone shop, which doesn't appear to have the broadest selection according to their online menu. The shop is only open on the weekends, which is when the menu is updated, and the prices are not mentioned online.

I was hoping to only spend roughly $100-$150 on obtaining new genetics, but figuring out which route to take in regards to the seeds vs clones is only the first part of the puzzle. Let's say that I go the seed route -- should I be doing the breeders pack, or the single pick-n-mix seeds? Is it possible to find something good from only 1-2 seeds per strain, verses the entire pack? I wouldn't even know what single seed strains that I would be selecting.. fiddling around with the thought of these so far:

I have been using attitude seeds for browsing through the different strains of seed, and their prices seem reasonable and they have promotional deals, such as using a bitcoin payment, that I could take advantage of increasing the additional goodies. However, I do live in the states, and that always raises some questions about safety, and security. There's always possibility of getting something locally from the states, but I believe this would mainly be breeders packs, and I would have no idea of where to even begin selecting something for that. Besides, I'm pretty sure most breeders packs would take up most of my budget for a single pack with one strain, which would be worth it granted that I'd find something amazing within the pack. I just want something that's actually fire and I can medicate properly with my own supply.

You've got a lot of questions but thats not a bad thing.
I will say stay away from attitude seeds, I haven't had anything successfully get through in a while. But they have a sister site choice seeds they seem to get stuff through better. Its the exact same stuff just different name. There are some US based seed banks but you typically have to send cash first, look around on here for that, use the search bar here.
Clones will have a faster harvest time as compared to seeds, but if you dare to clone stuff yourself then get seeds and take the clones as soon as they show female.
I will say that getting anything in the mail has a risk of being intercepted and then they know where you growing, so if you can don't send it to your grow house. But if you drive to get clones then you are clear once you get back home.

My msnl seeds came trough lots of strains but customs checked my package and new there were seeds inside so not sure id use them if not in a legal state also germ rates were not great

mountian great people not sure how their payment works i live so close i went in person eould def vouch for them even if you had to send cash and germ rates have been 100% so far

Seeds Vs. Clones depends on what seed and what clone.. If you know where the clone is coming from and that happens to be quality genetics it would be great!
Otherwise seeds come down to strain hunting. Pop some beans, have a good breeder, have a good strain, hope to find a good pheno.

What is a "good" strain or a "good" breeder.. Well that depends on who you ask! People prefer Indica might prefer a certain breeder over others that prefer Sativa.
There are Breeders, who people I've talked to say are really good, who's buds came out really nice.. yet people on some forums say "pollen chuckers".
Likewise there are other "big names" that imo. are just really good at marketing and I'll end it at that.

Imo. their "top 10" List on their homepage is either over-rated, or partially "sponsored" or "paid". (Or they really are strains that have withstood time and stayed on top for years.)

Thanks for the input guys -- haven't really figured out what I'll be doing yet. I'd rather try and remain discrete as possible, because purchasing a clone from a shop makes me feel like I'm letting the state know I'm doing. However, having a package opened up by customs kind of defeats that, and is worse than my medical friendly state knowing what I'm doing.

I'm reading that seeds for some strains claim to have averages of 20-25% thc. Does that mean I could practically pop a single bean, and granted that I give it the correct TLC during growth that I should have top shelf quality? I'm a sucker for top shelf and I'm trying to avoid paying the premium price that comes with it.

In the end, I am hoping to actually obtain some genetics where I can medicate ~0.4/g and feel it properly.. haven't achieved that with my own supply yet. I mentioned already that I've been running the same 4 strains for the last couple of years, and I've learned quite a bit and can manage to finish a cycle without any kind of nutrient burn or deficiencies. I harvest at the exact perfect time for optimal thc potency, buds large dense and frosty, yet the 4 strains don't hit me like the mid/top shelf bud does at the shops. I'm just trying to get some seed or clones that can give me the same feeling I get from the flower at the shops.

I just feel a little weird about letting the state know that I'm purchasing clones for my medication. I don't know too much about it, but there is a seed-to-sale log at medical dispensaries, and I would assume that I'd go on a list purchasing a clone. Having that paranoia, and the knowledge that the few strains that are actually sold at dispensaries from this clone store, sell more towards the bottom on the 10/g shelve. I think I mentioned the tahoe and gmo garlic cookies I have seen around top shelve at 15/g, but the tahoe didn't smoke too well for me when I tried it from a dispensary claiming to purchase the same clone from the same clone store.. that's why I'm not too excited about it.

I didn't know if it would be worth it for attitudes next monthly promotion, which is 5x freebies and I would be using either bitcoin or bank transfer, adding an additional 4x promotional freebies. I don't know how many seed I can get with $150 so I can't really get a total seed count, but I figure the odds of something good in there has to be high, right? Otherwise, I'll just bite the bullet and get a random 1-3 clones, which will be hit-or-miss (likely miss), and possibly (very likely) overpriced.

Personally I would go the seed route but it is all about preference. I also recommend having them shipped to a different location then where you grow. Too many times a clone brings in unwanted guests (pests). If you do go clone route make sure you quarantine and clean them up good before putting them into your grow area. With the seeds you can pop what you want and save some for later, start cloning once they are big enough and you could be all set. You can get a lot more variety for your $ and you never know sometimes the freebies knock your socks off. Nothing better then that when your expectations are so low on those to begin with. Looks like genotype a menu if your In Michigan and that's the shop menu you posted. They keep no computer records of you buying anything you just have to pay for the membership card. Great place with great genetics. I always get cuts from there.

They also carry breeder packs of seeds

That's most definitely genotype's menu -- minus the cbd strains. Must be a decent place if you're able to notice half of the menu from a message board. Would you rather opt for a local purchase from genotype, or make a purchase on attitude for the promo/freebies? While I have you here, do you know if the tahoe is the real deal?

Only because I was going to go there this weekend. My personal preference is clones only because the access we have to them. Not everyone has a place like that to go get them from. They do all the hard work in finding the good phenos or having connections that we don't have to get the cuts we can't get. But seeds are not a bad option if you want to crack a bunch and hope to find a keeper. But I have a plant count and don't have the room to search for a good cut from a bunch of seeds.

Everything I have ever got from there was the real deal. Also the few other growers I know have got stuff from them and it's all what they expect to get. I can't speak for something I never had but they are some legit dudes there and can answer all your questions. My only tip for you is if you go there get there before they open. They only have limited amounts of the clones so it's best to get there early to be first in line to ensure you get what you went there for.

If I could get the clones I want, Id go the clone route.

Hell I'm in a nonlegal state, and if I could get a really, really, really good clone of what I want, Id easily pay $500 for it. Youre lucky to have access.

Dominion Skunk also has Chem91 VA x Super Sativa Seed Club Sk1 x Skelly Hashplant x SSSC Sk1.

If you don't know who SSSC is, you need to research. SSSC was 1 of the best seedbanks ever, and was active in the 80s.
SSSC Sk1 is 2/3 SATIVA, and has NOT had the Sk bred out of it. The Mother of this is called the Pole Cat Pheno. This stuff will also get you a great Yield for your efforts.
