I thought it would be interesting for people to share their experiences of doing something "strange", or having unusual and amusing/interesting things happen during their grow.
This actually opens the thread up to a lot of things.
If you have a story about something you did that was...unorthodox...and it turned out with good but unexpected results...share it.
If you have a story about something amusing happening because of something you did or perhaps a mildly retarded friend may have done...share it.
If you've got a story about narrowly escaping LEO or other people you would hide your grow/smoking habits from (that hopefully made you laugh when it was over)...share that too.
I thought this could be an interesting thread to get people involved in, and later read...because I know I have plenty of odd tales collected during the years I have been courting Ms. MaryJane...and I'm sure others do too.

I'll start with one of my own.
At one recent point during our lovely economic crisis I had started some bagseed just for shits and giggles. To my surprise, many of the seeds sprouted quickly and took off quite well for the first couple of days. Unfortunately, I was living in a house I had never grown in before and was hardly prepared.
In this particular case, the things I was missing and couldn't get my hands on right at the moment, happened to be simple netted pots and rockwool. I had planned to use a home rigged bubbleponic setup but the only medium readily available to hold the little bugger was vermiculite. (A terrible medium in most cases, I know.)
So...I used styrofoam cups, with the bottoms cut out. to hold in all the vermiculite, I cut discs from a piece of window screen and placed them into the cups so they bulged out a bit at the bottom.
My original intentions were to transplant them as soon as possible. As it happened, procrastination and a location in the middle of podunk nowhere prevented such a transplanting from ever happening.
For a while, I was concerned this might hamper things or even cause premature death. The 1st week or so had seemed quite slow, though it may simply have been my paranoid imagination.
Amazingly enough...the plants didn't die. They grew just fine and turned out no different "above ground" than any of the grows I'd done using the "proper tools".
The interesting part about this deals with the root masses that developed. The main taproots of the plants grew down to the screen and curled into a corkscrew shape, then just sat there and produced thousands of the tiny hair-like roots, which were pushed through the holes of the screen and out around the screen.
The point being that such hairlike roots are optimal for gathering nutrients/oxygen (especially in non-soil systems).
While this isn't enough evidence to say for sure, it made me wonder if a more scientific approach (as opposed to half-assing out of necessity) might show that the finer holes force the plant to produce finer roots...perhaps if there is no room for a single root to grow larger in diameter, then it begins producing smaller extensions out of necessity.
(I haven't tried it since because my supply closet has since been restocked, but I plan to try a grow using 2 setups identical other than the pot/screen aspect)

Okay...that one didn't fall into the amusing category, and may not even be interesting to some. I'll wait to see if this is a thread people get interested in before posting any more...but I promise the next one will either end with a chuckle or a sigh of relief.
