Short/Wide 10gal Hempy dumb idea?

Anyone know of a down side to trying a container like this with Hempy? (24" L x 16"W x 8"D)


5 gallon doesn't cut it and I can't go taller.
Here's my issue...

I am correct in saying I'm handicapping yield with root bound plants yes?

You could totally grow in that. When I had height issues but I wanted to grow in 5 gallon pots, I took some ten gallon pots and cut them in half. Worked super well.
 
as an experiment, i grew 3 plants (i tried to keep them small) in a 3 foot long flower planter that was maybe 6" wide and 6" tall. it worked fine. but the smaller plants were key.
so yeah, i think you'll be fine. the roots will stretch out horizontally instead of vertically

The only problem with that container is strength, it will tend to bulge on the sides. This is a much stronger tote. I use a 27 gal for my rez and it works great.
 
I went aheadand bit the bullet. Bought 8. Luckily these are "extra duty" so pretty stout. Don't even think they'll need a coat of paint.

Guess we'll see what I can do with 10 gallons.
Transplanted a 9 day old White Widow. If all goes well I'll be moving over to these containers and cutting plant counts in 1/2.

.Smoke, can you tell me more about the clear cups you put over new seedlings/clones and what you have covering the top of them? I've seen people do that and never really thought about it until now. How long will you leave that on the new plants? Thanks in advance.

Sure thing. I needed a way to "dim" my lights for brand new seedlings. So I cut a couple "windows" out of a solo cup for airflow, and use this on top...

2 layers and my Lux diffuses from 40k outside the cup to around 10k inside the cup which is perfect for the first few days. Then remove cup and move plant from corner of tent to directly under the light by day 5.

Hope that helps. It's been working for me for almost a year now.
***Edit. Cup should be over the seedling in the pic not beside it btw :)
