Should I be concerned about nute additives or the soil itself?

Hey everyone,

I have done a few indoor runs using Happy Frog soil and have had pretty good results.

I have (3) 5x5 tents in my setup, one for veg (500w mh) and two for flower(each have a 1000w hps), and also have a small room for clones/seedlings(T5). I am essentially running around 10-15 plants each 5x5 flower tent.

My results so far have been good, but I know that there is a ton of potential I am missing out on. I was having heat stress issues my first couple runs that I've recently taken care of and have seen a very nice improvement since in general plant health (ie. not NEARLY as many yellow dried up leaves). But I just know that with the right nutes or soil recipe or both I can take it to the next level and reach medicinal grade, HOPEFULLY :).

So my main question today is should I be more concerned about my actual soil recipe I am using for my plants, or should I be more concerned about the nutrients that are to be added throughout the veg/flower cycles through watering?

OR

should I be concerned about both?

I have been reading up a little on how getting the microbes in the soil active and adding certain base nutes to the soil is essential to a healthy indoor soil grow, but I also have read about people using typical soil and being more concerned about the actual nute additives per se.

I am also hoping, whether you feel nute additives are more important or whether a solid soil recipe is more important, if you can share your suggested nute additives and soil recipes along with your opinions!

Thank you VERY much to all whom respond!!!!!!

Take care everyone!

ps - I am open to all ideas, synthetic nutes, organic nutes, organic soil recipes. Please share what YOU feel is the best route to take, and why. Thanks agian!
