Should I drop the lights lower

I have a 10x10 room
With 4 HLG 550 boards
And about 400w of strips on the edges all affixed to the ceiling.
I’ve used a par meter and get about 280-300 at plant beginning stage.
My question is if I have the light capacity I do I shouldn’t need to lower the lights to 2-3 ft above plant or should I?

When the lights are so far above the canopy that the walls catch more direct rays than your plants thats generally not ideal lol. Hanging them high has advantages and IMO it's more about how high above the canopy they are when the plants are at peak height.

I’ve got some eye hooks so not a problem to get up there and bring me down with some hooks

How high is your ceiling? Do you think your framework would not flex too much? The other option is to elevate the plants and lower them if they get tall enough.

Yes.... i would and just dim them for seedlings i keep my led's about 1 to 2 ft away and you should get some 6000k lights for veg

Depends on how big your gonna get your plants. Maybe sit your plants out the way for a few mins and crank the lights up to 100%. Get out your par meter and find how far away from the lights your hitting the par numbers you wanna flower under. If your plants are gonna finish at that height your good if not your gonna wanna lower the lights or raise the plants. Your gonna want at least 800 on your par meter but 1000 would be better. Anything over 1000 on par meter would need to be completely dialed in with C02 and most likely higher feeds.

I’m going to be feeding co2 for sure. I’ve used a par meter and right now at seedling growth they have 280-300. Where I’m wanting them to finish at around 6-7 feet is 900-1100 with about 80% turned up.

You can lower and dim or stay up high at higher power, I would say it depends on the environment.

If your temps are ideal now and dimming means adding a heater to remain ideal then I would rather run as you are.

Then as plants require more light lower lights accordingly.
