I am setting up a new grow area and light setup. I will be posting updates as I get things accomplished and get more parts in the mail.
Current Situation
I have a
LPC-60-1400 Meanwell Driver
HLG-185H-C1400B Meanwell Driver
(1) Working CXB3070 3K on CPU heatsink
(2) Damaged CXB3070 3k on CPU heatsinks (may be recoverable, copper solder pads ripped off)
I ended up dropping my setup and destroyed (2) CXB3070s and (1) CXA3070. I had (4) running on the HLG @1400mA ~ 200w and a single CXA3070 on the LPC @ 1400mA ~ 50w. Total ~250w in a 2x2 grow area.
Due to the recent loss of equipment I have been getting up on the latest DIY LED trends and here is what I have come up with for suitable replacements...
LED mA V $ LumFlux Lm/$
BXEB-L0280Z-30E1000 700 21.6 $5.95 1195lm 201.5
BXEB-L0560Z-30E2000 1400 21.6 $4.76 2390lm 502.1
SL-B8V3N80LAWW 1430 25 $21.90 5630lm 257
SL-B8V1N60LAWW 1430 11.2 $13.19 2820lm 213.79
CXB3590 1800 39 $33.04 12134lm 367.25
CXB3070 1900 39 $15.92 9413lm 591.2
Looks like maybe best bang for buck (Lumen/$) is the CXB3070s that I have been using. CXBs @ 1400mA on a CPU heatsink need to be actively cooled. BXEB-L0560Z-30E2000 came in second based on a quick glance, they do not need actively cooled if running at 700mA. So another added cost/hassle is heatsink/fan for CXBs, BXEB-L0560Z-30E2000 can be mounted to a cheap u channel piece of aluminum.
Given my current equipment options I thought of buying CXB3070s again, maybe buying the BXEB-L0560Z-30E2000 or buying a mixture.
LPC-60-1400
9-42v
1400mA
58.8w
Used to drive a single CXB3070:
(39v)(1400mA)= 54.6w
(54.6w/58.8w)(100%)= 92.8%
LumFlux -> (80%)(9413lm)=7530lm
(7530lm)/(15.92)=472.9
Used to drive (4) BXEB-L0560Z-30E2000:
2 LEDs wired in series, wired in // to 2 other LEDs wired in series. (4) LEDs total
19.5v @700mA = 100%LumFlux
(2)(19.5v) = 39v (1 series)
(39v)+(39v)=39v(//)
(19.5v)(.7A)=13.65w
(4)(13.65w)= 54.6w
(54.6w/58.8w)(100%)=92.8%
LumFlux->(100%)(2390lm) = 2390lm
(4)(2390lm)= 9560lm
Lum/$= 502.1
So for the LPC-60-1400 I would get about
(9560lm-7530lm/(9560lm+7530lm))(100%)= ~11% Increase in Lumens with BXEB-L0560Z-30E2000 setup
Cost:
(1)CXB3070 - $15.92
or
(4)BXEB-L0560Z-30E2000 - $19.04
BXEB-L0560Z-30E2000 setup costs slightly more but will run a lot cooler, provide more lumens.
HLG-185H-C1400B
71-143v
1.4A
200w
(4)CXB Setup
(4)(35v)= 140V
(140v)(1.4A)=196w
(196/200)(100%)=98%
(4)($15.92)=$63.68
LumFlux->(80%)(9413lm)=7530lm
(4)(7530lm)=30,120lm
(30,120lm/$63.6
=472.98
(14)BXEB-L0560Z-30E2000 Setup
(7)(19.5v)= 136.5v
(136.5v)(.7A)=95.5w/7 BXEBs
(2)(95.5w)=191.1w Total
(191/200)(100%)=95.6%
(14)($4.76)=$66.64
LumFlux->(100%)(2340lm)=2340lm
(14)(2390lm)=33,460lm
(33,460lm/$66.64)=502.2
So even though the CXB setup has a higher driver efficiency by about ~2.5%, it has a total output of 30,120lms compared to the 33,460lms of the BXEB-L0560Z-30E2000. Seems like ~10%more lumens with the BXEB-L0560Z-30E2000 setup.
In Conclusion
LPC-60-1400 ->Use (1) good CXB I already have [email protected]=~50w
HLG-185h-C1400B -> Buy (14)BXEB-L0560Z-30E2000 136v@700mA=~191w
Total 241w draw at wall, 40,990lms total, 4sqft grow area
~60w/sqft, 10,247lm/sqft
Shopping List
(14)(BXEB-L0560Z-30E2000@$4.76)= $66.64
Any thoughts/corrections/additions are much appreciated!
p.s. - Quick google search shows 400W HPS puts out about 44,000-50,000 lumens when new, shows ~200w LED should be equivalent. Would you take this setup or a 400w HPS?
