Should I try to induce more general growth before vegging/flowering?

They're 5 inches tall and they've been on the windowsil under natural light for 5 weeks and have 4 proper leaves with 2 more tiny ones starting to come out...should I stick them under 24 hour light for a week or so to get more leaves before I veg then flower do ya think? Got 2 20-watt CFL's coming next week sometime...I'd like to try a while under 24 hour light just to see what the difference is in a week or so in comparison to natural 12-16 hours of light we're getting over here at the moment...

It's only 5 inches tall? I would definitely put them under a light for a week or two to let it grow more before you flower. It'll get you more buds!

they are vegging...

put them under whatever you prefer, i recommend 18:6. flowering with 2 20w cfl's is a no-no.

you'll need 6-8 for a worthwhile yield.

Did I mention the 2x3.5ft cupboard i'm gonna cover in tin foil?

Bearing that in mind...I reckon there isn't space for much more than 3 bulbs really, I'll try the 24 for a week or 2 then i'll try that 18:6 suggestion for vegging, cheers dude!

tin foil would be another no-no, creates hotspots and can burn your plants.
matt white paper rivals mylar etc.

and also, just lining your grow area with reflective material won't increase your lumen output will it.

i'll assume 2foot wide and deep and 3.5 tall are the measurements, if so, you would easily be able to get a 70w hps bulb in there, and supplement it with the cfl's.

//or

you'll need at least 6 cfl's, belive me. and you can easily fit them in there...

the ventilation will be essential.

Cheers for the help sublimed, but money is an issue as well as space...

I'm thinking a single 24 watter CFL as well as 2 20-watters then I'm done and i'll see what the outcome is then...

What do ya think about a reflector above the lights? i was thinking of an old lever-arch or ring binder covered in foil or some kind of silver paper to direct the light down...the inside of the cupboard is white polystyrene tiles - i'd obviously leave my fan on in there with the door ajar during daylight hours anyway...

a reflector above the lights could consist of something made out of sheet metal ideally, but again matt white paper is more effective than tinfoil, believe me on this one. so a paper lined ring-binder is good.

polystyrene tiles are perfect for the walls (:

cfl's are like 5$ each for 20w ones... if you could muster another 20$ then you will have a dramatically increased yield.

how many plants do you have exactly?

Then buy 46W CFLs, they sell them at wal-mart for 8.88 each, buy 3, each one puts out 2600, so if you have 3, you will have 7800 lumen's, and you can bud a plant with that...

Cool so, plain old ringbinder it is then...I've only got 2 plants.

I live in the uk man, I'm buying the lamp fixtures as well as the bulbs so I think i'll stop at 3 unless it really needs it - I'm not spending a lot on it, what i got/got coming so far cost me about £15 more than an 8th bag and whilst im only working part-time i can't afford anything else right now...:blsmoke:

that's cool man, i live in the uk too.

3 of those cfl's would be adequate for one plant, so i urge you to spend money on 3 more if you can, no pressure lol.

you might want to think about using scrOG, because this will utilize as much of your light as possible. and it would also increase your yield.

Cool - I'll stick them through the grow cycle and c how they look after a week or 2 then maybe buy another one or so... :peace:

I've got 3 lights coming though - total wattage 350 so...for 2 plants its a decent amount of light for an experiment really. Also just got myself a silver blanket for reflections, not sure where I'm gonna put it yet - but I got it if I need reflection somewhere...not even emptied the cupboard yet!
